Frustrating Wedding Vendors

Sherisse, on February 3, 2020 at 12:41 Posted in Before the wedding 0 14
Hey loves! Is anyone else having a really hard time getting a hold of wedding vendors. I’ve noticed a pretty sad pattern lately; For example I’ve been searching for custom sugar cookies for my engagement party and I’ll email a store or just a solo baker and I won’t hear anything back for 2-3 weeks so Ill follow up with a call and then whoever is on the receiving end is so rude. Especially when I mention the party is in the summer, I get the condescending attitude. I thought I was supposed to reach out with plenty of notice especially for a large order. It’s all so frustrating ! Is anyone else having a similar experience? 😭😭😭

Honestly same here girl! I completely understand being busy. I frequently travel for work but I always manage to stay on top of things. If they can’t manage to respond to a simple question with some sort of customer service. Issa no lol

That’s honestly what I was thinking; so just cut them off my list. I pretty much have a new batch of “new vendors to call” every week 🤦🏽‍♀️But I’d rather keep looking until I find a fit, than settle ya know.

Yes, but this may occur after a contract is signed and a deposit/installment is made *sigh

I’ve been having the same problem, and then when they finally do respond I’m not so sure if I want to use them. What if they did that leading up to your wedding. It makes me worry and stresses me out! I personally don’t think it’s good customer service!

Yes!!! It’ll be two weeks now since I’ve not heard from my videographer. We’re in that awkward space where I’ve given them all my information and I’m about to sign the contract, but they’re overseas and not responsive so...
from a vendor standpoint, I ALWAYS try to reply to customers as soon as possible (especially brides). I market my bakery purely on Instagram so I always do best to be timely and efficient because I know how frustrating it is when others are so snippy or completely MIA.

To be completely honest with you unless you absolutely LOVE them and need them to be in your wedding: the one who gives you the best customer service is the one that gets your business at the end of the day. It's their loss not yours! So if they're brushing you off, look for someone else! I promise you they're not all like that. Smiley smile

That is so frustrating! I agree with the others, phone calls and in person seems to be the best way to get a hold of people.
Other than Valentine's I can't imagine why they might be swamped right now, but maybe it's their after holidays vacation season?

I had a lot of problems in 2018 when I reached out to vendors for my 2020 wedding. The problem is they see your wedding so far in the future it's not high priority for them.

I agree with Caitlyn, phone calls and in person are the way to go - vendors, in general I find, suck at communicating by email. So if you can, try to call and make appointments to go in person, I think you'll get more traction that way.

I have certainly been there with unresponsive vendors. I, like you, started reaching out to my vendors quite early, thinking that it would be easier for both us and the vendor if they had early notice, but I think it just caused them to look at my date and put me on the back burner. It's weird because if I were a vendor I think I'd much rather people reach out to me early and book a job months or a year in advance over last minute people.

I would usually give an unresponsive vendor a follow-up call or email after a week or two with no response and then if I got nothing they were scratched off my list.

One thing I tried was to try to reach out with a general inquiry and get a quote and not mention my wedding date in the initial correspondence if I could avoid it just to get my foot in the door and maybe give them less of a chance of ignoring me. Sometimes that worked and other times it didn't.

Phone calls and visiting in person are also harder for them to ignore so maybe with new vendors you contact try skipping the email and go straight to calling.

Back when I first got engaged and was sending out all the emails - yes. But to be fair I got engaged Dec. 30th 2017 and the Wonderful Wedding Show here in WPG was like 2 weeks later so most vendors that I contacted right after that took up to a month to get back to us. It sucks, but Christmas/ New Years is a big time to get engaged so I can see why most vendors are starting to get busy. Plus with Valentine's Day coming up I can also see why a baker doesn't really care about something months from now as apposed to the Hallmark Holiday in less than 2 weeks. Sad, annoying, but true.
