Food truck dinners

Maggie, on August 29, 2021 at 15:51 Posted in Wedding reception 0 4
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has gone the food truck route for a reception dinner over catering. Any recommendations? I am in the KW region of Ontario. Thanks!!

This is a popular idea right now. I just posted the below comment in a previous post. Hope it helps!:

Love this idea! Food trucks can be quite expensive, so be wary of hidden fees. Some might guarantee to feed x amount and that's all they bring with them. I would get a couple of them to appease as many people as possible. Taco, pizza, dessert, ice cream, chip (fries/poutine, hot dog, burger), are popular ideas. If you've seen it done and think it works for you, then go for it!

Are you thinking of having the truck do full plates or will it be appetizer sized portions? With the full plate, it's easier to expedite orders, especially if you limit the choice to two or three plates. You can also pre-determine the cost ahead of time with no surprises (75 entree x cost per plate).

With bite sized foods, you usually need a longer list of items or risk the menu being boring. And things like the truck running out of one popular item can happen if they didn't prep properly - it happens at carnivals and street festivals all the time where the truck sells out of one item by the second hour of a full day. And the biggest variable factor is the surprise cost at the end. You won't know what you owe until all the orders are tallied at the end since one person can order five appetizers vs another guest who orders twenty.

It’s at a family farm. I went to a wedding last year with a food truck and it was a lot of fun, which only had the 1 truck, they had about 75 people at their wedding. Line ups weren’t bad as people went as they pleased.

What type of venue do you have? Obviously a food truck can only work for an outdoor wedding but if your truck can only stay in a parking lot and your guests have to trek across a park or some big yard to get food, it could be cumbersome. And you'll need quite a few trucks to make lineups bearable.
