Food Tasting!

Kelsie, on October 9, 2019 at 10:24 Posted in Wedding reception 0 20

Hey everyone!

I got to go to my reception venue last night and have a food tasting! We had already kind of pre-chosen our menu beforehand but wanted to give the food a try to make sure we were choosing wisely!

We have an antipasto bar but obviously, they weren't going to bring out an antipasto bar just for us - I'm sure it'll be great though!

For the meal, we chose a penne pasta dish to start which is phenomenal! Guests will then get to select either a steak, chicken or vegetarian meal (with options for those with other sensitivities as well) and then finishing off with a really light dessert which we loved!

Sadly, I couldn't try the wines as I'm having a surgery tomorrow but FH and both our parents said they were really nice!

How did everyone's tasting go? What did you end up choosing?! Did you have something in your mind and you ended up changing the menu?

I can't wait to book in for our tasting! We are waiting a bit till next year though.

That all sounds AMAZING! Good choices.

I am so excited for all the food.

Honestly our venue did it all. It was an upgrade for a late night snack. They brought out a bunch of cheeseburgers wrapped and under heat lamps. They went super quick!
My cousins girlfriend works at McDonalds and she says it happens quite often that they do weddings for late night snacks

Definitely! If they'll give you a sampling free of charge even better! Our tasting for the two of us was free with our venue, but bringing our parents was an additional charge.

No food tasting for us - but we got Danny's Whole Hog BBQ which we've both had previously at other functions so we were NOT disappointed!

Our menu was; Pulled pork (sauces), bbq chicken, rolls (and butter), mixed veggies, caesar salad, mac & cheese, baked potato's (with sour creme, green onions, butter, and bacon), and for dessert we had nanaimo bars, carrot cake, butter tarts, and brownies!

Lol, people for sure did not go hungry!

My husband just ate the antipasto bar, and only a couple bites of all the food!

We had a fondue station, pizza, and McDonalds cheeseburgers. Everything went lol.

It sounds like your guests definitely weren’t starving at your wedding!!

We were really happy with our portion sizes - guests won’t be going hungry for sure!
I’m going to pick up the wine I didn’t get to try this week! I’m sure it’ll be good, but like you I’m not sure how much wine I’ll drink on our wedding day lol!
Did you have a midnight table as well ?

That sounds amazing! The tasting was my Husbands favourite part of wedding planning lol.

We did an antipasto bar for the cocktail hour. Pasta and meatballs, guests had a choice of chicken or salmon for the main, and then caramel crunch for dessert.

It was amazing. We knew ahead of time what we would be going with, but after the tasting we knew our decisions were right.

I picked the wine, and oddly enough didn't drink any of it lol.

Yes I they did give us our choice of menus which we have already chosen. I was a BM for a wedding there and I did enjoy the food a lot. However, actually going for the tasting for our wedding that'll make it real...

Did your venue give you any indication of what their menu might be so you can decide beforehand what you’re interested in?

Thank you! My surgery went well, just taking some time to recover now Smiley smile!

That’s amazing! We’re getting roasted potatoes with our meals which are ok but I love scalloped or mashed!

Ouch! I still have my wisdom teeth *knock on wood* and hopefully I wont have another surgery for at least 3 years so fingers crossed!
I hope your recovery goes smoothly!!!

We went to our venue's tasting banquet for 2019 couples in April of this year but we'll actually decide after the 2020 one. We were pretty stoked that we'll get 2 nights of free food since we booked so early lol. In addition to the chicken and veggie options for the main course, we were thinking of choosing roast beef but my parents both tried their prime rib when they went for dinner one day and said it was out of this world, so I'm convinced haha.

Hope the surgery goes well! Good to get it out of the way so long before your wedding!

I also like pinot grigio, but my favourite is chardonnay lol!

We saw that scalloped potatoes were an option and knew that was our side from the get-go hahaha!

I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled a month after the wedding, so I'm probably (definitely) going to lurk here while I recover Smiley tongue

Omg scalloped potatoes are fabulous!!! What a great side for your guests - I'm totally jealous (I love scalloped potatoes...hahaha)! Your bisque sounds fantastic as well - I've never heard of it before.

I think our wine was... cab sauv as well for red, but a pinot grigio for the white. Devastated because I love pinot grigio - I'll just have to buy a bottle to sample haha!

Thanks for the wishes! I guess I'll have loads of time to peruse WeddingWire for the next week Smiley smile

That's awesome! I definitely started feeling like the wedding was becoming a reality at my tasting lol. We picked 2 starters/dinners/desserts to sample and picked the one we liked best!

We have an assortment of hors d'oeuvres for our cocktail hour, red pepper bisque for starters, scalloped potatoes with beef/chicken/veggies (depending on what guests picked), and chocolate mousse with orange sorbet for dessert.

We have a chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon for wines.

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow!!
