Food Tasting

Monica, on February 14, 2019 at 18:48 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12
Hi ladies!

Just wondering when do you plan on doing your tasting for your menu? How many months in advance?

I’m pushing to do mine this month / next month for our wedding on June 7. But our venue coordinator who is also catering our food, keeps saying we’re “rushing?” I feel like 3-4 months is good timing, so it gives us time to find other caters to supplement the meal if needed?

Menu tasting was selected in advance for us to choose what we wanted to know what our guests be eating as we would. Our venue was suggesting us 6 months in advance to do so and the menu was created on that basis. The options for RSVP was also another factor that put us in the knowing of what to offer for the guests on food choices.

Thanks everyone for your input! Puts me at ease knowing we’re not rushing and doing it within a good time frame. We would have liked to do the tasting earlier, but venue coordinator kept saying it was too soon

Our venue gave us 2 dates to choose from, one week apart, to do our tasting, so we're doing ours 4 months prior and it seems like a good amount of time.

If you’re going with a caterer I would think a good one will be booked a year to 6 months in advance, so make sure to booked it before then if it’s someone that is quite popular.

My venue has an award winning chef, as they’re also a restaurant, we stayed and tried dinner after our tour of the venue to be able to try the food. He will be our chef for our wedding so it was pretty important to us, and it was delicious!!

I would say at MOST 2 months before so that you can have the same seasonal veggies/foods at the time. But that's just me.

We will be doing ours in June (4 months before), it seems normal for most places. My venue is in charge of catering and they usually do it at the 3 month mark, but they are making an exception for us since we are out of town and just so happen to be in town at the 4 month mark anyways.

This way, we can make our decisions and put down details in the RVSP cards and get invites sent out at the 3 month mark.

Our venue has an in-house caterer and the wedding co-ordinator in brought us in in October for our tasting (which was 6 months before the wedding) it worked out well because We could make our decisions and include a bit of detail about each meal on the RSVP cards we sent with our invitations.

Never! lol We've had the food before so we will be skipping it, but had we gone with a sit down dinner or "wedding food" then we probably would have gone as soon as their menu was set in stone and there wouldn't be any seasonal changes in price and/or food.

We did ours 4 months before. Mostly because we were at the hotel in December and won’t be back until our wedding (it’s a 4 hour drive) she was totally fine with it.

We are doing ours in June. Our venue has a showcase for everyone and we get to taste the whole menu and go over details etc. 4 months in advance for us, and the wedding planner said this is plenty of time for them!
