Flower preservation

Lissa, on August 4, 2022 at 09:58 Posted in DIY 0 13

What’s everyone planning to do with their flowers after the wedding?

I wanted to get mine dried and pressed so they could be arranged in a frame + some resin items, but it seems like everyone is booked already. So I decided to learn how to do it myself!
I just learned how to make some resin pieces with flowers I dried. I did buy some more test flowers yesterday that I’m drying in silica gel to make sure I don’t mess up the real thing in October 😭

Honestly with the cost of all the craft supplies it totally makes sense to have someone else do it Smiley smile
I’m planning to make some for friends who are also getting married so it worked out for me. But I did buy some test flowers to make sure I don’t mess up the real thing 😂

Beautiful! I'm paying someone on Etsy to make a tray with handles, some coasters, and an octagon ring holder. I'm not crafty enough to do it on my own and don't trust myself to do a good job with it. It's pricey, but I think worth it considering how much I spent on floral and it'll be a beautiful keepsake for me. Smiley smile

I wanted to press my bouquet and put it in a frame and any other centrepieces left, I wanted to try to do the resin molds! But ya just didn’t know how it could be possible!

Okay thanks I’ll give that a try!

Are you planning to press yours or dry in silica? I’d honest try and bring a container and silica (and a book for pressing) with you if it’s going to be a few days before you get home + that long drive.

Silica gel is cheapest from Michael’s with a coupon (better price than Amazon). I got the little dish mold from Walmart, but the ring holder I got from Amazon. My resin I got from Amazon as well

I was going to get mine preserved as well!!! Then I saw the prices so I looked up how to do it myself on tik tok!
Those look amazing! 🤩 good job!!

The only thing I’m concerned about it , is how I’m going to keep my flowers good in good shape , I have a 13 hour drive home and won’t be leaving for a few days after my wedding .. any suggestions?

My bridesmaid who has experience with drying flowers (she used to do resin work) dried mine and the bridesmaids bouquets so we are going to make pressed frames with them!

Seems like the silica works better for drying, I do like the ring holder such a great idea and turning it into ornaments as well is fun and something that could be passed down to your kids.

Love resin you can make so many nice things.

I hope your friends flowers turn out! As long as they haven’t started to decompose they should press ok. But I’ve also had some rot for no reason while pressing 🤷‍♀️

I’ll be drying mine in silica gel and arranging in a shadow bow. The ring holder I posted was one of my test pieces I just made so I’ll likely make a few of those as gifts and some ornaments for my MIL etc.

So many ideas, My friend got hers pressed, worried how they turned out because by the end of the night they were wilting already, Smiley atonished I am hoping they turned out for her sake. But I saw the resin idea as well before I went with silk flowers for my bouquet and there's so many different options.

All comes down to what you prefer. they are both really great ideas and last a lifetime.
