First dance song - help!

Megan, on January 21, 2020 at 20:18 Posted in Wedding reception 0 19
Hi everyone!

So I feel like I made a post similar to what I’m going to talk about now but that just goes to show that this is still an unresolved issue LOL... so my FH and I are really struggling on agreeing on a song to dance to for our first dance. Both of us have a preferred song, his being A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman Soundtrack, and mine being With You by Tyler Shaw. So I do like his selection, it’s super fun to dance to, you can do a bunch of lifts and spins, plus ever since we watched the movie we always sing this song together when we’re driving, but I just don’t like how long the song is and I feel like at this point it’s overplayed in our household LOL. He also likes my song (his exact words being “I prefer that one over the other ones”) but we both agree it’s not as fun to dance to. At this point we’re willing to compromise and pick a new song so this is where I need your help!! We both are looking for a song that is fun to dance to but still has a slow dance vibe, we’re high school sweethearts so it’d be nice to have a song that represents us growing together or something, oh and we’re both not a fan of country music which seems to be 90% of first dance song options....
Pleaseeeeee any suggestions would be great! We have 4 months left till our wedding and we have been undecided about this for a year now!

Get a band to make an arrangement where they start with the slow song and crescendo it into the upbeat one? That way you get both songs for the length of one.

Friends of mine who recently just got married combined the two songs she and her hubby were torn between. It turned out to be a really fun time. Maybe see if that could work and this way you both.

Can you rock paper scissor it out? i feel like your FH song has a bit more meaning if you guys have watched the movie and continue to sing it while driving

Another option could be remakes of original songs.. sometimes they remake country songs that dont sound country or they redo sappy songs and make them a little bouncier

Lol oh no! That definitely makes it harder. My 3yr old is obsessed with his music. Is there a band/singer that's a favourite of his that you like? Or a song's lyrics speak to you/your relationship?

I saw something really cute where the couple flipped a coin to decide their first dance song. If you don't have any luck finding a third one to agree on you could leave it up to fate!

We both had a first dance song in mind but couldn’t decide. We ended up finding a third song we both LOVED and then incorporated the other songs into our ceremony for key parts (ie walking down the aisle, signing papers music, exit song, etc)

Check some songs by MIKA. They’re often upbeat and a little cheeky and fun.

Ed Sheeran has a few songs that could work. I almost used some of his. Is there any band/singer that you guys are really into? Hubby knows that I love Nickelback & when satellite comes on, we always dance to it, so it will be our first song.

Maybe go to the Billboard Hot 100 list from your senior year and see if that sparks anything?

My favourite band is The Proclaimers. We danced to a slow song of theirs called Ungaurded Moments, but they also have a fun song called Let's Get Married.

What about a slow song you danced to in high school or at prom?
