First dance

Robyn, on November 15, 2018 at 20:19 Posted in Wedding reception 0 24

The only thing about my wedding that I'm really excited for (other than marrying the love of my life OF COURSE) is the music. The big day's still months away but I'm already combing through my old mixtapes and playlists, trying to find the perfect songs for every moment. My question for you guys is about the first dance song.

Are you picking a new song? An oldie? Something that's meaningful to you and your partner? If you want to share, please do!

I've decided to keep our first dance song a secret - I want to surprise my fiance. It's a song he introduced me to, near the beginning of our relationship.

We knew we wanted an older tune. We like sappy old love stories lol. Took us a long time to find it though. We were combing through lots of 1950's stuff. Was hoping to find something by Sam Cooke but it never happened.

Stumbled on our song at a concert. Wasn't the 1950's oldie vibe we were initially looking for, but the song is perfect for us, and we're pretty excited to dance to it together.

    Calico Skies by Paul McCartney

We are picking a song that really speaks to us. Something that when we hear the words we think about each other or something we’ve done. Haha best way to make that day special is to have a song you both enjoy.

Whenever I think of a song I might like, I just play it for my FH and we dance to it and if it feels right it will go on the list of top 3 songs and then we will pick from those haha!

First dance song has just been chosen. Seasons - 6lack. It’s meaningful to us and it’s pretty without being something too classical and out of the realm for us.

Ahh! These are 2 of my favourites! Both were on our list but I let my fiancé choose and he went with ‘The One’ by Gary Allan for our first dance and ‘Unreal’ by Gord Bamford for me coming down the isle Smiley smile he put so much thought into it and I love it!

I am having the hardest time trying to find a song to dance up the aisle to. My hubby doesnt want marry you or forever as he thinks those songs are overplayed. The remix to our original song i walked up the aisle to is alright but its not the same singer so its not the same version.
However our first dance is boxes by the goo goo dolls. We chose this song right away as it was perfect for us. The first lines go "need a family who drives me crazy, picks me up when I'm low and lazy. Wont be perfect but we'll be fine. Cause I've got your back and you've got mine!". We are going to incorporate our daughters into the dance too!

Our song "I don't dance" by Lee Brice my fiance chose years ago as our song. It's truely is us. He never was a relationship type guy. 4.5 years later and we will be married when we have been together 5 years. I have quite a few choices for walking down the aisle too as he chose another song " Who I am with you" by Chris Young

Thats a great idea of a surprise for your FH. We had chosen a song that is popular and well known. Every couple varies based on style and genre of music that suits them best.

I LOVE THIS - such a great idea Smiley heart my fiance is the same, very into rap (whereas I listen to more indie stuff). We are working together on the playlist and so far, he's "winning" because it's *slightly* easier to dance to Drake than to Joy Division Smiley atonished

We are nine months away from our big day and the only song we have selected is what will be played while I am walking up to the ceremony. For this we have fallen in love with Speechless by Dan and Shay. I hope it doesn't become over played between now and August. Our first dance song is still to be decided. We have two or three that are contenders, but we are still searching for the perfect one, and who knows what songs will be released before our wedding.

We are going with a song some might find cliche but Ive chosen a cover of Can't Help Falling In Love by Haley Reinhart. The only reason I chose this is because after listening to tons of songs this was the one I saw us dancing to. I absolutely just knew it was the one.

This has been tough. no pick yet. I told my FH to start looking at songs. and no a rap song won't work. hahaha

the song I wanted. where the chorus is perfect. and beat is great. the 1st verse is not marriage appropriate.

so back to the drawing board. I really don't want something super slow. I want a bit more fun.

We haven't officially decided on a song, but we have a few choices we're considering! The only song I have picked out for certain (as we haven't spent much time on our playlist yet) is the song for my father/daughter dance.

Literally terrified for the moment that my fiance and groomsmen hear the Meek Mill - Dreams and Nightmares intro and my grandfather is in the room.

But I'm combining our tastes. He listens to a lot of rap music and that doesn't translate well into an elegant wedding venue, but I guess there's a first for everything. I'm more of an R&B person so I'm not worried about my picks. I know it sounds weird but for our dance I wanted it to be more comical - we laugh at lot and I wanted to make it light and different, so I was thinking of looping the into of Andre 3000 - I choose you. Yep.

I literally go through my itunes playlist on a daily basis looking for songs and have a list of potential songs for each dance!

For the ceremony we are trying to stick with country music as its a very rustic space, and I love country music! We have almost all the songs picked out for our ceremony. Just like you I am keeping the song I am walking down the isle to a secret from my FH as he didn't want to hear it.

Our first dance is also a country song because we both love it, and it does have some meaning to us.

    2) Father Daughter dance: Kind and Generous by Natalie Merchant

    3) Mother Son dance: First lady in my life by Paul Todd

    4) First song to kick off the party: Shut up and dance by Walk the moon.

We haven’t decided on a song yet, but it will definitely be something older. That’s nice to keep the song a secret! I feel like with wedding planning, everyone wants to know everything, so nothing can be a surprise anymore.

We have decided on a song, but we do have a spotify playlist with some of our top choices. As of right now we don't feel a rush to pick one though because I just know that if we do - I will overplay the crud out of it and then it will be a no-go to play.
