Fiancé just got laid off ... 4 months before the wedding and it was a total blindside

Natasha, on January 6, 2020 at 23:59 Posted in Before the wedding 0 13

Fiance just got laid off ... it's 4 months until our wedding. FML

VERY unexpected, he left a job he was at for two years to take this opportunity that in hindsight was " too good to be true". It was more money, better company environment, better benefits, management role, new industry. Interview went amazing and he's had a lot of positive feedback and growth conversations since he started. Checked all the boxes.

It's also 6 days before his 90 day probational period is up so no severance. OUCH.

We've dealt with this TWICE two years ago just before we got engaged but we lived in a cheaper apartment and had a few less expenses (like not paying for a wedding).

We were fearful and knew there was a risk of this happening again when he finally landed a new kjob but after two years of providing himself at his old job, leaving on good terms for the "next step" and acquiring two new professional certifications .... we were just blindsided.

We finally got out of "recovery mode" and finally started enjoying our lives again.

Oh nooo that's awful!!! Hoping for you that it all gets smoothed out soon, and it's great that you're out of recovery mode and enjoying again! Fingers crossed for a relatively peaceful rest of the engagement!

This was the part I was excited for too, like everything else has been kinda just “waiting”

    That's horrible.
Hopefully he finds something and you're still able to enjoy the last few months before your wedding.

Wow - that's crazy. I work in the legal field and this sadly happens A LOT.

However, he could qualify for EI until he finds a job? It at least gives you a little bit to go on until he can find something full time and permanent. My fingers are crossed your FH lands something soon!

That's really unfortunate! I hope this is only a short absence and he will resume work soon. Hopefully you have enough credit to pay the rest of your dues now, and then gift money can help compensate! My fingers are crossed for you 🤞

He has a side business but no current projects / customers and he did try to make this his full-time job before and it never took off to the point where it could be his only job.

All deposits are paid for but final payments which is the bulk of everything HAHAHA .... nope.

We have family help for the wedding and we have been saving in preparation for final balances we are responsible for but of course there was still more that we were going to be saving in the coming months

They have not filled his old position and he left on good terms but I don't think his boss would hired him back - he reason for leaving was career growth and an industry change after he completed another part-time program. It would just be a paycheque and they are a business too as nice as the people are.

    Just felt like venting, haha.

We went to this parents last time and they helped us out with a loan. We are still paying off that loan. The most they can do for us this time is stop collecting those repayments until he is back on his feet, which is nice but a bit of a dead end, ya know?

That's so awful to hear Smiley sad I'm not sure if you are looking for ideas of what to do or just wanting to let it out somewhere - but either way let it out here and we will help with suggestions as well as with just being here to agree how upsetting it is.

If you are looking for suggestions - is going to your parents for help possible? I'm sure he is already looking for another job but don't suppose they already filled his old job position?

Would any of the vendors be able to go on a payment plan given the circumstances?

I'm so sorry to hear that! Very unfortunate timing. Do you think be will be able to get back in the workforce relatively soon? Can he do freelance work or odd jobs? Are most of your deposits and fees paid?

That’s awful. So sorry that this happened to you guys! Is there any way he can go back to his previous job since he left on good terms?
