Family Member Officiating the Wedding

Sarah, on March 3, 2020 at 18:24 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 6

We want to have a family member officiate our wedding. Has anyone else done this? How did it go? Do you have any tips or any suggestions?

A family member sounds great to officiate your wedding as it will be a nice way to gift you on your wedding day. The cost that needs to be paid is for Ontario if you wish to cover that cost. It can be on the person to pay it and marry you both gifting you that service.

I should have stated that we are from Alberta, where it has recently been announced that it is easier now than ever to have a friend or family member serve as a marriage commissioner for one day. We are excited to have a family member do this for us, and to give us the more intimate ceremony that we want.

Thank you for some feedback ladies!

We are getting married in sask and this isnt an option, because they would have to become a marriage commissioner and marry more then just your friends.

Some provinces allow people to become licensed officiants but in others you would need to be legally married and could have your family perform a symbolic ceremony.

I found a lot of info on my provincial website, they have a whole "getting married" section of FAQs and even a list of officiants. I would start there and see what you have to do to be legally married.

Hi Sarah welcome to Wedding Wire.
We are using a family member.
So, depending on what province your in, you have to fill out some forms. Pretty simple actually. We went online and did the paper work. It is way faster then mail.
