Thinking of planning an evening ceremony and doing a "first look" anyone have any advice or experience with this?

My ceremony is at 4.30m (mid-January), so sunset is around 4.40pm (if the sun is even out, haha). We'll be doing first look, as well as all of our photos (with family and bridal parties) before the ceremony, starting around 2pm.

I'm going to enjoy having that part over with, so we can go straight from the ceremony to the reception, without a big break in the middle. It also saves on cost, because you don't need to pay for food/drinks for cocktail hour to entertain your guests!

Oh for sure, what I did was wait for October 5th of this year to roll around and then I literally took notes as to when the sun started going away - sounds dumb and silly but I think it was the easiest thing to do Smiley smile

Thanks and congrats to you also. First look before the ceremony, ceremony prob before sunset, then the photos at sunset kinda thing, I think sunset is 620 so I am going to have to figure out the timeline and nail things down better. I have time to think about it all. My wedding wont be for another year and a half, I just really like to have everything planned out!

Well, first of all - congrats on the engagement! lol and welcome to the wedding wire community!

As for the first look vs. the ceremony timeline - were you meaning that you want the first look pictures at sunset as well as the ceremony or just the ceremony?

I suppose if you wanted both you would have to chose what poses you would want as the time at sunset would go by so fast! But otherwise I want a sunset ceremony as well so I looked up what time that would be for where the wedding is taking place and put our ceremony at about an hour or so before that. So the sunset is 7pm so our ceremony will be at roughly 5:45pm.

Last year i was an MC of a wedding. They had ceremony at 5pm

First look was 3 or 330. So gave them time to have the first look. Then they did all their wedding party photos in between. So that way after ceremony they could do family photos. And some more of just themselves.

Talk to your photographer on timing. They will have a good idea on how much time they need in between or if there is travel time to add etc.

We are having our ceremony at 5 and then reception at 6 and will be doing first look.
Our ceremony is outside and I wanted to have pictures where I’m not squinting in everyone because of the sun.
Also since our wedding is a Friday it gives people more of an opportunity to come to the ceremony. And if not they can just come to the reception and have it be a Friday night out
