European Adventure!

Maegan, on August 30, 2018 at 19:52 Posted in Honeymoon 0 6
We fly out for our honeymoon in 1 week today! So excited! We delayed our honeymoon for 2 months after the wedding (which was early July) as I was unable to take more time off work in the summer.

We will be backpacking Europe for 8 weeks! Our plan (subject to change) is Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

We have nothing booked after our first two weeks in Scotland so will be winging it. We enjoy good whiskey and would like to spend a large amount of our trip hiking.

Hit me with all your recomendations or places to avoid! Smiley laugh

I can only comment on Italy as that is the only country I have visited on your list! Rome was a little too touristy for my liking but I loved Venice and Florence! Venice looks much more worn down in person compared to pictures...and some of the streets were a little dirty! However, you should go see it before it sinks! When you're in Florence, make sure you visit the leather market...most stalls sell the same design so shop around first to get the best price! As a foodie, I didn't really love the food in Italy..I felt like each restaurant served the exact same menu! Don't drink the tap water...eww....Most people in the tourist areas speak English but it's not a given! Hope you have a great and safe time!

If you like a little culture and history, definitely go to the Edinburgh Castle! Also, you need to find Greyfriars Bobby, it's a famous statue in Edinburgh.

If you go shopping in Italy at the street market type shops, negotiations are key! Their first price is always for more gullible tourists, you can usually bring them down a lot. And when you think you have their lowest price, walk away and they'll drop it again... haha.

Overall, ask some of the locals once you're there for the hidden gems. It's the 'behind-the-scenes' pubs, restaurants, attractions, that are usually the best/most unique.

Hope you have so much fun! So exciting!!
