Escort Cards vs Seating Charts?

Malyssa, on March 16, 2022 at 12:13 Posted in Wedding reception 1 20
Hello and happy Wednesday you beautiful people.
When planning a wedding, there are so many things to consider, both big and small. One small detail you may want to think about is, how you plan to tell your guests where to sit! There are many different ways to go about this but the two major options are Escort Cards or using a Seating Chart.

Escort Card:0?ui=2&ik=82fb6d8e33&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-a:r4444744386156972953&th=17f937df7b24e8e5&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ8kQkeNvWwP38BolSdgX1WHaQFadmVoG1qOYBXJUSq8rKSsK5BCItR8lDLf_2A-e9TOdVF38go7Q8CeY9ottQUUQWPb__qSoUb7P4dd4aW1slqOBlLHHRrPxrs&disp=emb&realattid=ii_l0tpu8ks0
These pint-sized pieces of stationery are typically laid out on a table at the entrance of your reception venue - possibly near or on your welcome table. Their purpose is simple: they tell guests which table they’re seated at (example: John Doe - Table 3). They can be as simple as a piece of paper to something a bit more elaborate like something to eat, champagne, or even a little trinket!

Seating Chart:0?ui=2&ik=82fb6d8e33&attid=0.3&permmsgid=msg-a:r4444744386156972953&th=17f937df7b24e8e5&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ_gXjnMl1dtsLRsLMEuBtNe_897FmmbHJLKqIMeYKdfL-saiQuwulQgFIB68OiUm3uP_s-I__fm15hwKCXDAIfdQuj5ajiiFzHSZy9k1swTU6iR2CmvIgSutCw&disp=emb&realattid=ii_l0tpy60u2
A seating chart lists your guests' names in alphabetical order with the table number next to the name or grouped together according to table number, for all guests to see. It can create an unexpected and fun entrance into the event space. You can get super creative with what you use, whether you use a mirror, window panes, wood pallets, vases, or even just simple pieces of paper.

What are your thoughts on the options? Have you decide what's going to work for your wedding? I'm still trying to decide between the two so would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

That's a fun idea for sure! I got the Mason jars on clearance so I figured it would be a neat touch to use for the night but also keep as a favour!

I’ve seen growlers used for centrepieces before with simple florals and it looked nice! Bottles is definitely an option for table numbers etc.
We’re using vintage brass frames for all of our signage & some clear gold frames I found at dollarama for table numbers Escort Cards vs Seating Charts? 1
(The little photos are just placeholders for now, I’ll be getting them printed and then they’ll go behind the glass)

Im trying to decide between using some old frame I have around the house, or doing something different like on beer bottles/growlers, as we are trying to pull some brewery vibes since thts where our wedding will be. I have been using some vintage frames for other signs around the place but still cant decide on the chart side.

This is another thought we had, especially since our venue is a brewery, we thought it could be fun to provide a cup for everyone to use for the night!

Thats actually a really smart point for escort cards! You can always just have all the names down and add the tables last minute.

This is kinda the route I am leaning towards, we too only have about 50 guests, but im struggling if I want to do a place marker at the table too. I know it doesnt make a huge difference where people sit, I just want to make all the things haha

Do you have any ide how you are making your chart yet?

I think it might be the app, I can see them on the website but couldnt see them on the app. I also really struggled making this post, the site kept freezing!!!

Anywho, I have been really like the look of the alphabetical display!! I think it so smart when you have larger numbers and then people dont have to spend a bunch of time just searching for their name, just look at the alphabet haha are you making your chart or ordering it from somewhere?

I’ll be making a seating chart with a large 2’x4’ vintage frame and my cricut. I’ll have place cards at the table as well that indicate which entree the attendee has chosen. I’m thinking of using my cricut for these as well

We are doing a seating chart for guests for what table they are at! At each table there will be a mason jar cup with the guests names as a place card. But they are welcome to sit where ever at the table Smiley smile

I made the names on the mason jar with my cricut and also made the seating chart!

We are doing escort cards so people know what table to sit at but they can choose which chair to sit in.
And I can't see your photos that you've posted!

We will have escort cards. I have little ice cube holders for escort cards that I was super excited to use for my winter wedding but since I won't be using them now I'll just use the escort cards folded over.

They are easy. We can just assign a table and be done with it. If someone comes last minute or decides not to it's so easy to change them up.

That is what we are going to do as well. We have mixed each table with guests from both bride and grooms guest lists to help with mingling of both sides

We are doing a seating chart by tables. We only have about 50 guests with 7-8 tables so it should be easy enough for people to find their names.

I don’t know if it’s just my phone , but I can’t see your photos!

I’m going with an alphabetical seating chart on foam board and an easel. It just tells guests what table not a specific chair! For me it was easy and quick to make and I like how it will display and my venue!
I have 100 guests and the venue is fairly large. This makes it easy for guests to go sit down and we can get on with the night. I’ve heard from a lot of wedding planners it’s good to have a seating chart or escort cards because even having 100 guests can be like Herding sheep!
