We were semi formally dressed up for our park engagement pictures. Just different spots chosen for its look and colours surrounding us.

As for your theme of travel on the mountains, casual does work well looking at the views surrounding you two. Formal wear around the trees area

I literally just asked all these questions... to both the community and my photographer Haha.
The feedback I got was, yes, 2 outfits, casual and dressy. If a dress or skirt, a-line, empire waist. Generally wear loose clothing.
Match, but don't matchy-match. Wear complimentary colors. If one outfit has print, the other should be in solid colours. He's going to wear plaid for the casual, and I'll wear floral for the fancy.
My photographer said a pop of red or purple looks good in outdoor photos. Orange is the least well photographed, and don't wear anything neon (its harsh and reflects on your skin).
Dont wear anything brand new, and over everything else, be comfortable.
Articles I read also said for the woman to have one statement piece accessory. A chunky necklace or something to add visual interest. Also for men to try and layer for interest.
Avoid text and logos on clothes as it is distracting.

I think you can wear whatever you want for your engagement photos. I would suggest something comfortable that you feel good wearing. We wore jeans, boots (it was winter), similarly styled sweaters and t-shirts in our photos. We had our coats with us and took them off to actually shoot the photos.
