Engagement Party / Buck & Doe

Michelle, on December 26, 2018 at 08:52 Posted in Before the wedding 0 4
Hi!

We're newly engaged and just wondering about the differences between an engagement party and a buck & doe.

My FH and I don't want a buck & doe because we think they lose money over gaining, especially since we don't have enough connections for people to just donate potential gifts.

I would like to have an engagement party. However, is it polite to ask people to bring their contribution then, in the extremely unlikely event of us having a buck & doe.

Thanks in Advance!

I feel that if the Buck & Doe is done correctly you should be able to make money off of it - but the engagement party is for sure not the place to be looking for contributions.

I would suggest that you could bring the idea of a Buck & Doe up at the engagement party to get a feel for if anybody there would be willing and able to donate something? Just bring it up like "I was thinking of doing a buck & doe but wasn't sure if anybody would be able to donate things - what do you think? Is it worth it? Who would I even ask?" to see what people say.

Also, congrats on the engagement!!! And welcome to the wedding wire community!

Stephanie hit the nail on the head.

now you may get some gifts at an engagement party. but usually not.

And engagement party is to celebrate your engagement, I would not use it as a time of contribution! It's usually something with a smaller group of people just have a nice dinner out! Ice seen them be fancier at halls but that builds up the money too.

Buck and Doe is for sure the place where you want to try and bring in some extra money for the wedding! If not then gifts at the wedding is the really only other good place! You might get some gifts at the bridal shower but those are for sure more physical presents and less money donations.

In the end, I would not personally ask for contributions at the engagement party.
