Engagement Party

NATASHIA, on May 6, 2019 at 12:55 Posted in Before the wedding 0 13

Hello you all again,

I am looking for input on an engagement party. My fiance and I recently moved to a new province away from 99% of our friends and family. We only have his dad and his dad's girlfriend where we are. This being said, I'm wondering if it would be weird to have an engagement party the next time we go visit back home. We got engaged in December 2018. Ps title is supposed say Engagement Party.

Thanks in advance.

I'm glad it's not just me! I'm having a long engagement too and it really just makes the entire process easier/less stressful when you have a long time to plan things Smiley smile

Random fact, before moving to Ontario I had never heard of a stag/doe party. I will take that into consideration. I think the biggest variable is how long we wait to go back for such an event.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! We moved from Alberta in October and got engaged in December, I feel like by having an engagement party when I go back home would be a nice way to include my friends and extended family before our reception. We are going to have a parent only ceremony here (Thunder Bay/Ontario) and go back for a reception. I come from a large family (62members just on one side) that I don't think most of them would be able to come out, however they're all relatively close to our homestead back home, which is where we are planning the reception.

I spend close to 80% of my day googling wedding sh*t in general. Everything from songs, decorations, prices for licences to dresses to hotels. I'm going crazy, good thing we decided to push our wedding a year. Smiley smile

I would skip an engagement party! Maybe do more of a stag/doe or celebration in that sense when you go back! To me I think it's a little off to have an engagement party so far after getting engaged. But that's also just me!

We also moved to a new province about 8-9 months after we got engaged so we had already started wedding planning and everything! We decided to skip the engagement party but a few friends Nd family members asked if we were going to have one when we go back for the wedding..which would be just under 2 years after being engaged, we said no because we are already planning a wedding we don't need an engagement party a few days before that too.
I think the only time it's too late for an engagement party is after you're married! So yes, have an engagement party next time you visit!

Where did you move to and where from? Do you plan to have your wedding at your new location or back home?

Definitely have your party when you're back home with your friends/family! We didn't have ours until August 2018 (we've been engaged since October 2017) since we wanted to have a summer BBQ.

That would be fine! If they are all back home, I would arrange to do it then and try to coordinate what you can where you are and ask family to help organize it as well. I changed the title to say party to haha

Thank you, I appreciate that. I just wasn't sure if there's a time limit.

It's not weird at all! You and your FH want to celebrate your engagement, so you should do it whenever you can (there's no time limit on these things!).
