Engagement Party

Victoria, on February 16, 2018 at 16:17 Posted in Before the wedding 0 22

Anyone else had an engagement party recently/are planning one in the near future? What are some things that went well/did not? If you are still planning what are some of your ideas?

Here are some pictures of ours! We had it last month at a local brewery.

I am struggling with this as well. Last year I did a Canada Day Party, and I'm thinking of doing it again and combine it with an Engagement Party. We have a BBQ and then walk to the lake for Fire Works there is also yard games for the kids. If I got adult sized ones we could also use them for the Reception........ Might be something I will look into!

In the meantime I am going through the pro's and con's.

I'm so torn about throwing an engagement party...I think it would be so fun and I'd love to do it but I'm not sure about where to do it or who could make it. My family and some friends live 3 hours away, and the rest of my family lives in BC, and the my FH's family lives in Sudbury and Thunderbay, so I don't really know how feasible it would be to get everyone together. Has anyone else struggled with this?

Good to now! I was just planning on our immediate families and few friends. Thought would do a backyard celebration this summer.

We figured some people would bring gifts (most did), so we only invited friends who will be invited to the wedding. We didn't think it was fair to expect people to come out and spend money on a party for us if they weren't going to be there for the big day.

However, my one friend planned a surprise party for our engagement/my bday and there were a lot of people there who won't be invited. But since it was more casual and no one brought gifts i think that was totally fine.

    Karaoke is amazing.

Free space is the best. The brewery had a free party room with a minimum $350 spend which was easy with our friends and beer lol.

I called some local restaurant/pubs in town and managed to reserve seats - they offered us half price appetizers and gave us a couple of free platters as well. Didn't cost us a dime and it's for their karaoke night so I'm sure everyone will have a blast !

Love this!! We used a whiteboard for ours. One of our friends is an illustrator for kids so she had these adorable cartoon drawings of us!

This is what we did! We got engaged in July last year, bought a house in October. We renovated the entire thing. we hosted a housewarming/engagement party in January once the crazy holidays were over.

My parents hosted one for my FH and I about a month after our engagement. We knew most of my side of the family wouldn't be able to make it, as it is out of town, so it was mostly for my FH to meet some distant relatives. It was a small backyard affair, loved it!

Those are great pictures, thanks for sharing! We haven't decided yet, but we are also buying a house together so will be moving in the next few months so are thinking of doing a combined get together as same people would be invited to both.

My fiancé's family wants to do a dinner for out families to get together so I guess that would be kind of like an engagement celebration? They plan to take us all out so unfortunately we don't really get a say on décor or how things go. It's the thought that counts though.

We had been planning a backyard BBQ housewarming party just before we got engaged, so when he popped the question, we just transformed the theme of the party to include the engagement. Very casual, we did all the cooking. It turned out great!

We did one about a month after we got engaged. I'm glad we did it so close to our engagement as it really was a great way for people to celebrate that time with us when it was still fresh.

We just kept it lowkey and did it at my FMILs with some finger foods and drinks.

I don't think I would have changed anything really, except I ended up having to purchase/do more of the set up then I was originally told I would have to.. it was a bit of a rush right before the engagement party but it was still lovely!

We were thinking about it, it's been about 8 months since we got engaged. But we are now moving across the country! So thinking maybe a leaving/engagement party lol. And your pictures are adorable!
