Emcee

Sabrina, on February 7, 2019 at 04:20 Posted in Wedding reception 0 4

Hi all,

We are getting married in October and have planned to keep things as simple as can be. We are doing a small reception at a local picnic park followed by a sit-down meal at a local hall in which the meal is being hosted by ourselves and parents. Our guest list will be between 50-60 of our closest friends and family. We are not doing the usual big hub bub with garter, bouquet throwing, or the dance following the meal. My mom brought up the topic of an emcee- how would I incorporate an emcee into our event that is this simple?

What would they need to cover, things to say - should this be something I consider? All input appreciated.

Our MC is a good friend of ours. He'll be:

    - introducing our wedding party and us as we have our grand entrance

    - introducing people as they do speeches

    - announcing our shoe game (will probably do that in lieu of bouquet/garter toss)

    - announcing our first dance/everyone get on the dance floor now

    - announcing our cake cutting

    - doing a bogus "will the owner of a <my vehicle> please move their vehicle" announcement as a gag

    - announce last call

    - any other basic announcements

We aren't having a grand exit so we won't need that but it's something you might incorporate.

We’re asking my brother to MC. He’s do basic announcements and introduce the speakers. No cake cutting or garter/bouquet for us, so that’s about all he’ll have to do.

Okay first off - HI WEDDING DATE TWIN!!

Now that that is out of the way, I would say that these are what they cover besides the dance announcements and garter/bouquet toss.

    - Announce the wedding party (if there is one) into the room

    - Announce the Bride & Groom into the room

    - Cake cutting?

    - Grace? Unless you either don't have one or you have somebody doing that already

    - Letting people know when they can get food if it's buffet

    - Any games? Like the shoe game are announced by MC

    - Announcing that the Bride & Groom are leaving/ exiting the reception

    - Announcing anything that was lost or found?

With all of those things being said - if it's so low key, I would just ask somebody in your family or friends to be MC... My wedding is 250 people and we asked a friend to MC even though our DJ offers it, it's more personal and they may have jokes about the Groom (I don't know him that well).

P.S. Congrats on the engagement and welcome to the wedding wire community!

If you are wanting an MC at your event, they could announce you coming into the eating hall, announcing each table when going to buffet to eat, or even just asking whoever you wanted to do speeches to come forward.
