Elopement in Ireland

Leandra, on January 9, 2020 at 01:03 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I are planning a trip to Ireland this year. Although we envisioned being married in September in my hometown, we’d love to elope in Ireland while we’re there and simply have a reception back home to celebrate.
My question is, has anyone had any experience with “renting” an outdoor venue in Ireland? We’re really just looking to be married near castle ruins or at Hag’s Head, where we can simply enjoy the Irish scenery and be officiated. I’ve come across several sites for wedding planners and have inquired with them. However, we’re not looking to have all the bells and whistles added. I’ve seen prices for these location rentals but no information on how to contact the owner.

We had looked into it. We were looking at elopinginireland.ie they have exclusive access to a few locations so you don't get tourists in all your photos and a few packages around €****. They have witnesses, photographers, bouquets, I think you can add pipers if you want them.
What made us change our mind is that you need to arrive 2 to 5 business days before to get your marriage license. A symbolic ceremony didn't need this, but we wanted the real deal. Ultimately we thought that going early would just be us stressing for the days before the wedding and it would eat into our trip time.
I still keep thinking about sneaking to Ireland for leap day and getting secret married though!!

I don't know too, too much about it, but I would recommend looking into the logistics of getting married in Ireland before deciding to choose it as a location. My husband is Irish, and it seemed a bit more complicated than it seemed to get legally married there. I think you have to stay in the country for a few weeks/months to get your license etc. We decided it was easier to have the wedding in Canada in the end.
