Electronic Save the Dates? When is the right timing?

Farrah, on January 6, 2022 at 15:22 Posted in Before the wedding 1 5

Hi!

My wedding is April 2023 in BC and I have been looking into sending out electronic save the dates. My only concern is I have a few relatives who are older and don't have email. Has anyone been able to get around this somehow or have any tips? Majority of my guest list would have no problems accessing an electronic save the date and I'd really like to be able to save some $$$ as I plan on doing printed/mailed invitations.

Also when is too early? I was thinking of sending out save the dates 12 months out (April of this year) for out of town guests - mainly my family from other provinces and countries and maybe for guests in town I'd send them out closer to the date like 6-8 months out.

To set myself up I started asking for some addresses (before I decided I'd like to go electronic with save the dates) and few relatives giggled and said I was ridiculous for thinking about gathering info/sending a save the date a year out from my wedding. Should I wait longer or should I just skip save the dates and send out my paper invites earlier? Maybe I am just overthinking this lol. Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks Smiley smile

3-4 months before hand is a good time frame for you to send out your invites but if you have invites going over seas, maybe send those ones a week or two before you send out the rest.

Hi! Also a 2023 bride here (June). We have a ton of guests that live in Ireland that are being invited so we will be sending out save the dates a year in advance Smiley smile and I guess our invites maybe February or March for the invitations ?

We sent out our save the dates to all guests (in town and out of province) around 1 year out.

Welcome to WeddingWire Farrah Smiley heart

If some of your guests don't have email, I would suggest sending a paper save the date to them. 12 months out for the save the date is a great time frame for your guests to possibly look into flights and accommodations if needed. Also your guests have something to look forward to in 2023 with a date in place! It's always great to get a head start with getting addresses and such that way you're not rushing around a few months or weeks before you need to send out your invites.

My fiance and I sent out our save the dates a year out from our original wedding date (we've had to postpone twice now) so that everyone had the chance to look into flights, hotels, Airbnb's etc. Our entire guest list is traveling to our city that we're getting married in so it made sense
