I think declining/low hospitalizations is baked into the plan, it’s just not the pronounced metric. None of the provinces reopening plans actually have a specific hospitalization threshold - it’s all “declining or low”. It’s just Kenney can never provide the full context for anything, he’s so bumbling and lacks sense. I found Dr. Hinshaw explanation of the reopening plan the following day a thousand times better and more reassuring. Also with the appts already booked - it works out to 75% of the eligible population vaccinated. And based on the age groups that have been eligible for months, we will hit 80% I’m sure of it. So let’s just hope the vaccines do what they have been doing in the other countries and crush those cases! I’m cautiously optimistic and hopeful.

Hey! No worries. I definitely had some serious wanting to throw up anxiety when I heard “all restrictions lifted & Stampede is a go” last Wednesday. And I’ve been waiting for the all restrictions lifted day since the vaccines landed! But then I just sat with my anxiety about it, did some critical thinking and decided to flip the narrative. We really don’t know how it will go so may as well hope for the best. 🤞🏻

I just can't believe the third step isn't contingent on hospitalizations or deaths due to covid. Kind of wild to me, but also not surprising for Kenney/the UCP to go this route. Hopefully 70% is enough to actually reach herd immunity or rates go even higher than that.

I really appreciate your opinion on the topic! I think when people hear "Stampede", they assume it'll be a Stampede like all years prior (myself included). It's hard not to internally panic and worry that this event will cause a spike in cases, but you're definitely right when you say that Stampede has a huge reputation and all eyes will be on them. In that sense, they'd definitely want to be cautious and set a good example, and hopefully that means it'll go off without a hitch and doesn't lead to a spike in cases!

As an October 2021 bride (who already postponed) I feel you - I am excited but also like *if the Stampede screws this up heck hath no fury like a bride scorned*. However that being said - I have followed Calgary Stampede (the organization itself), Nenshi and the Stampede Board statements since this reopening plan and every single one of them has said that it will be a limited Stampede with safety plans and cautions in place. There was never an intention for it to be restriction free 2019 style Stampede (no matter what Kenney says). So limited attendance, pre purchased tickets, distancing, and some masking still.

Obviously we will see what ultimately happens but I am cautiously optimistic it will be ok. Mostly because Stampede is a world renowned organization with a huge reputation so I do not think they plan for it to become a super spreader or could live with being the cause of another shutdown.

I know there is a ton of stress and angst around the Stampede happening - but let's flip the narrative - what if they can pull it off, it ends up being just fine - think of the door it will open to safely resuming events. Like more festive activities at wedding receptions Smiley laugh

(Disclaimer: I am not a Stampede person in any normal year so I really could care less either way, I just want post pandemic normal to start).

We just have to wait it out and see what happens because I feel like if cases go up again after the stampede they might rethink things....

Same - I want to be so hopefully with this news new but after this past year and a half, well I just know that I need to manage my expectations. Still going to put out those positive thoughts and hope for the best!

I really wish stampede was limited in some way - just to be a bit more cautious and responsible. If we were all closer to like 70% fully vaccinated not just 1 shot or if it wasn’t happening at all I wouldn’t feel so anxious I think ha. I know I won’t be attending that craziness. I feel like people are either going to be too anxious to go or will go buck wild haha. Hopefully the vaccines will stand up to the hype and pull us through stampede 🤞🏼

Yeah no kidding. I don't understand why they need to have the stampede like everything else has been cancelled in regards to festivals and such. They just can't wait until next year....

Part of me is ecstatic because that means my September wedding can have a full guest list, however, I am almost anticipating having some sort of surge in cases after Stampede and us having to go back to restrictions 🙄

I agree! Or somehow limit the guests in attendance and still require masks and distancing!

I agree with you on that! I personally think that the stampede shouldn't go through this year. They should just wait until next year

I just worry that 70% with 1 dose isn't enough to limit spreading at a crowded major event like the Calgary stampede... but I do really hope it is enough!!

If most people have gotten the vaccine and the hospital are down, they can't say no to opening up the restrictions. Most of the state's have already opened up because of this

As much as I want to feel hopeful about this, I feel like stage 3 is too soon and I worry we will end up in another lockdown in August. I REALLY hope I am wrong though!!
