Early wedding gift etiquette

Brittany, on June 27, 2019 at 18:41 Posted in Before the wedding 0 10
We received a RSVP back in the mail today, that was a decline. However they included a card and a cheque.
What is proper etiquette ? Do I cash it now ?
our wedding is still two months out. So that is a long time to hold on to it and not lose it, or for them to forget they wrote it.

But my issue with cashing it now is that I want to send out thank you cards after the wedding with photos, but I feel like 2/3 months is a long time to wait for a thank you.

What should i do ?

That sounds like the best idea! We'll probably end up doing something similar regarding cheques/gifts given well in advance before the wedding.

Yeah the first thing I checked was if it was post dated, and it is not.

It's my great grandparents from my mom's biological father. So I don't actually have their phone number, and they live in a different city.

I think I will cash it, and make them a generic thank you card up for now. And then send them the official thank you card after the wedding.

I agree with the ladies below regarding cashing it based on the date.

I'd say cash it now, unless it's dated later. If you have a specific plan for thank you cards (picture from the wedding on it) maybe call them or email/text them and thank them and then send them an official thank you card after the wedding. But if you are just sending generic cards then send one asap.

If it's dated for today or prior - cash it now. If they meant for it to be cashed at the time of the wedding then they should have post-dated it.

At the same time, I would give them a call to personally thank them and to let them know you will be sending out thank you's with a picture from the wedding and they are at the top of the list!

Of course, if your thank-you cards aren't going to have a picture or two from the wedding then I would go ahead and send a thank-you card now.

I would cash it now and then give them a call or stop by their place (if they are close) for a thank you. And then send out a thank you to them when you send out the rest after the wedding

Technically, you have until 3 months after the wedding to send your thank you cards. So you could give them a call or send them an "unofficial" thank you note before the official one after the wedding that would include a photo.

As for the cheque : it's always best to cash it right away. Depending on the person, they might be waiting for you to cash it's gone from their account.

Cash it now because the cheque can bounce if they don't have the funds 2 months when you get married. Email them back and thank them with a card following after the wedding to send them.
