Dress fittings

Katherine, on January 2, 2017 at 13:44 Posted in Before the wedding 0 8
Has anyone arranged dress fittings yet? The store where I got my dress estimated that alterations would be minimal and suggested that one fitting 8 weeks before wedding would be enough... I booked 10 weeks from wedding date since we are leaving 2 weeks before to go back east, and also want to get it cleaned prior (dress is a sample)... I'm hoping that this is enough time, kind of out of my element here.

That's good to have someone who know tips like these to help out especially when it comes to clothes. I will always keep this in mind with any clothes, in the past, I had alterations done before the dress was dry cleaned and luckly after it was cleaned, it did not shrink based on the material.

Sounds like you're good! Like the other brides said, you do want to wait until closer to the wedding so that your body is close to what it will be like before the wedding. If the alterations are minimal, it really shouldn't take that long and you've left yourself with enough time for if they have to fix anything after the first set of alterations are done. Make sure to double check that the alterations were done correctly! I had to have 2 alteration appointments because I added straps to my dress and they put one of them on upside down the first time and then there were a few other minor things I wanted fixed after it was hemmed and the bustle added. I was stressing about getting it done on time but they'll make it work!

Yes my Godmother is a seamstress at a dry cleaners and she gives me tips all the time. She also told me to always wash jeans and put them in the dryer once before hemming them. I've bought jeans where the legs have shrunk almost 2 inches in the dryer after washing! So I take her advise and do it everytime I buy jeans.

That's a very good point about dry cleaning the dress first due to material.Smiley smile

I would recommend getting it dry cleaned first if it needs it. Material can be subject to shrinkage and you just never know. Once you get it cleaned the get it altered . That would be my advice! As far as time line goes I think you are fine. Smiley smile

    Hi Katherine,

I called one of the bridal shops and asked when I should order the dress and arrange for alterations. The shop where i bought my dress recommended that if it needed to be ordered; should need to be ordered 6 months before the wedding. In my case, I was able to purchase the dress since it needed less alteration. The lady (Laurie) recommeded that I get it alter at least 1 month before the wedding since that when the body changes are more accurate it. Based on your time-frame, that does sound like you have a good amount of time to have everything done. Hope this helps! Smiley smile
