Donut Cake

Taylor, on May 13, 2020 at 14:25 Posted in Wedding reception 0 6
Hello all!!

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this crazy time!!
I'm in the midst of trying to keep my focus on my wedding planning, rather than sitting in my constant state of panic, and I'm curious if anyone is doing a Donut Cake in place of a regular cake and what the cost looks like for one? I'm not even sure where to go to ask for it, but I just love the idea of them
Thanks!!

I cant say for sure but I think donuts would definitely be cheaper depending on how fancy they are of course. I love homemade donuts so much! We had actually thought about doing this but the bakery where we are getting our cake stopped making donuts a few months before we ordered our cake. I told them if they bring them back to let me know lol.

Yum! I had a friend who did a cake like this. It was a lot of fun. If you're in Barrie you should reach out to cup CAKE or Cakes by Design. I know they both do donuts for weddings.

Also, Artsy Baker in Aurora does them too.

There are a lot of local donut shops near me that have provided donuts for donut walls. Maybe lookup local shops and discuss it with them. A lot of local/ family owned shops are usually open to these ideas. You may need to bulk order donuts and then assemble the “cake” yourself

Donut cake is an awesome idea as having 2 desserts. Donut shops would offer pricing for larger orders based on the guest count you give. The top tier of your stand can be for the cake cutting shot if your considering the option over saving it for the 1st year anniversary. Slab cake can be served along with donuts for guests.

It is true for the Wedding word to be used as cost will rise when ordering your cake or donuts. Renewal/Celebration are better options of words to save more.

I had thought about this and then my favorite donut shop closed without warning (😥). They had the best old fashioned cinnamon sugar donuts I had ever tried and they were only $1.95 and right next to my office.

I would choose a small range of crowd pleasing flavors (chocolate dip, vanilla dip maybe in a wedding color, and an old fashioned glazed or sugared). Keeping the options small means people are more likely to see something they already know they like, and you might have fewer leftovers of something crazy no one was willing to try or didn't like.
You can look for some local shops for some cute donuts in your colors and round it out with Krispy Kreme, grocery store, or Tim Hortons to save some cash. The shop I loved had donuts from $1.50-5 depending on how crazy they were (some had edible cookie dough or whole peanut butter cups on top 🤤). Ask for bulk prices at shops and don't say wedding! The W word makes everything more expensive, just say "for our party/celebration" and you might save some cash.

A single tier cake alone will save you tons of money. Average three tier cake is like $800. Most fancy donut shops I've been to averages around $5 for a donut but I'm sure it's much lower if you buy in bulk.
