Does anyone know if we are allowed to dance?

Sarah, on June 29, 2021 at 21:21 Posted in British Columbia 1 13
So I just watched Bonnie Henry’s update and I’m thrilled to find out I can have 50% capacity so 90 people at my wedding!!However I’m totally confused as they mentioned night clubs can open but they can’t have dancing and there was no mention unless I missed it if that means no dancing at weddings?Does anyone know where the heck I would find out?

Since the start of the pandemic I've been very diligent with covid precautions and have actually thought the government hasn't done enough or acted fast enough in many situations. But I honestly do not understand their rationale for the new indoor wedding restrictions.

It makes no sense to me why you can have a huge house party (potentially with people you don't even know) and with no restrictions whatsoever but you can't have a small wedding and dance with the people you are closest with. I'm not even planning on having our reception this summer and I'm so mad for all of the people planning their weddings this summer Smiley angry

Especially after the government strongly suggested that dancing and mingling would be allowed in Step 3. If the government thinks it's safe enough to remove the mask mandate and to have 5000 person outdoor gatherings and to have no more capacity restrictions on high intensity exercise classes, I can't fathom why dancing at a small wedding is not allowed.

As well as no dancing (we are going to get really creative on the entertainment, aren't we ladies?), I want to bring to everyone's attention that part of the provincial health order states that if you have a tent set up with no walls at your reception venue, it is still considered an "indoor" venue (ridiculous, IMHO). My venue reception area is at a winery and has a roof but no walls and we can only have 50% capacity (70 people). I am grateful to be able to have the wedding, but this is absurd. Back to the dancing - I am thinking karaoke, bocce, or some sort of games at the wedding during the dancing hours as we will not be shaking our booties in any capacity on a dance floor. Anyone else have any good games ideas??

Ugh that totally sucks our ceremony is outdoors but the reception is indoors.I’m totally prepared to dance in the parking lot if need be and I’m looking into other entertainment options for the evening.

The BCCDC released some guidance re weddings. Unfortunately it does not bode well for indoor dancing. I believe even mingling between tables is not allowed similar to rules in restaurants 😞 Your venue doesn’t happen to be outdoors?Does anyone know if we are allowed to dance? 1

I'm sure they'll clarify well before then. Venues are going to be fielding questions from couples left and right and they'll want to make sure they're following all guidelines and giving proper information so they'll hound the government to give better info. If you don't hear anything more by this time next week I would get in touch with your venue and coordinator/planner if you have one and see if they've been given any additional information.

Yeah I agree it’s quite a different situation. I don’t really understand how personal gatherings are just like back to normal but weddings have these limitations. I definitely thought receptions would fall under personal gatherings since they have basically this whole time. I have a lot of issues with the changes coming July 1 but I’m disappointed they didn’t give people a clearer idea of what’s allowed and what isn’t. But what else is new from the BC government lol.

I understand the no mingling at a nightclub or bar because of people constantly coming and going it could be a total nightmare to contact trace but a wedding?Weddings are usually friends and family and easy enough to track down if you have all the info before the event.I’m fully vaccinated as are many of our guests so I’m really praying that dancing even if we have to wear a mask or have limited numbers is allowed for August.

I think they'll have to give further guidance in the coming days because it's not very clear what specific activities are allowed. They also say table sizes are up to restaurants/bars but there's still no mingling? So that doesn't sound good for weddings if that's the same. Hopefully they clear it up sooner rather than later for people trying to plan.
