Djs for our October 1, 2022 Wedding

Aunjrya, on September 16, 2021 at 00:10 Posted in Ontario 0 3
Hi all!

my name is Aunjrya! My partner, Margaret, and I are getting married next year and we are looking for a DJ.
Our style of music is 90s hip hop and R&B, top 40, early 2000s pop with some old school hits/Motown mixed in. (Biggie, N*SYNC, Elton John and Stevie Wonder). How did you find your DJ? How do you know they'll be good? Any recommendations?

We found our Dj through the vendor recommendation lost that our venue gave us! We had a phone call consultation with our Dj and we just felt good vibes from him as he did us we told him what kind of music we were looking for and he was all about it and loved that we wanted a variety of genres to fit all ages!

My fiance and I when we were looking for DJ's, we looked at reviews and the most important one was price! We are also able to make a list of songs that are a must for the evening. Also one of the factors to us signing the contract with the DJ we hired was how the conversation went when we talked to him. We just knew that we wanted to have him for our big day and that the price includes him for the ceremony was a done deal for us!

Most wedding DJs aren't the kind to mix their own creative sets so anyone you hire should be able to play whatever genre you ask of them. Usually they read the room and see how people are reacting to the crowd.

There's two types of DJs you'll find out there: one who represents themselves and the person you speak to will be the person working your wedding, and the other is a manager who assigns and sends a DJ out to your event.

With the first, you'll get a sense of their character when you communicate with them. Sometimes they'll agree to meet if you want to get a feel for them in person, or you can schedule a video call with them. Any reviews you find of them will be relevant since it directly references their work. The thing with these guys though is that they have less availability since they can only work one event per day.

With the second, it's kind of a crap shoot. Reviews for agency style DJs with a roster may not reflect the DJ assigned to you. For example, you may sign up for Company X based on rave reviews about DJ #1 but if they send you DJ #2, it might not be the experience you were expecting. But you have a higher chance of booking someone since they will have more people and can take multiple jobs a day.

Booking a DJ that suits your wedding will require some patience and research. You just have to contact a bunch servicing your area to see what they offer for what price. Much like a job interview, you pick the one that suits your needs.
