It depends what you want. we are paying $1100 for 8 hours of service and a lit up DJ booth. ive seen some for $500 if you just want a DJ

I'm not sure what a reasonable cost is to be honest .. I said I didn't want to pay more than $1500 (we ended up paying less than this) for a DJ and some of the prices we were given was like $4000.00.

Cost will depend on how elaborate your needs are. Are you just looking for a sound system or do you need them to run dance lights as well? Do you need them to have a fancy booth or can they just setup with a table? Number of hours and events (just reception vs ceremony + cocktail + reception) will also factor in your prices.

Have you checked your venue's preferred vendor list to see if they have certain people they tend to work with? I would start there and then shop around for price matching.
