DJ or Live Music

Amanda, on November 12, 2021 at 19:22 Posted in Wedding reception 0 16

Hey Everyone! Music helps set the tone of your reception, and is an integral part of your wedding. You need to feel confident that the person in charge will set the right mood, play your featured songs at the right times, and keep your guests entertained all night.

What are you all doing for music for the reception? Are you going with a DJ or a Band? Or are you forgoing both of these and just going with a Bluetooth speaker and your own music? Did the cost make a factor to your chose?

For my fiance and I we have decided on a DJ so we can relax during our reception and enjoy the night Cost defiantly made a factor for us with our decision on who we wanted to be our DJ for the evening. For our price that we paid, it includes reception, ceremony music and an MC for the reception!

DJ, I honestly don't think bands are that great, and I want to hear specific songs (by the original artist), not necessarily covers by a live band.

We're opting for DIY music lol Our friends wedding this past summer they just put on a playlist and it was pretty perfect for the event. And the whole time my FH and I kept saying how much we loved that vibe. I've asked for song requests on our RSVP's to allow others to have some tunes they like as well. And we have one of our groomsmen MCing for us, so we can still have the personal touches without having to tell someone new our life story (again lol)

    Hi Amanda,

I agree for us atleast- we have guests aged 8- 80. A DJ would have a larger library of music to choose from....

We're going for a band! My fiance and I have found that we prefer live music at weddings. My good friend had a band at her wedding this past summer and it was a blast! Everyone was up on the dance floor. The cost wasn't really a factor as we have around 2000 set aside for the music aspect, and the band we want to hire is 2500 for the night.

DJ is more affordable for the time frame of what you may want for the reception. Live bands cost per hour and depending on how many of the group members are part of the deal. My brother had this done part of his wedding for one occasion and not part of the reception. You feel the first dance will be more memorable if the live band plays your song, then it would make sense to have that done. One couple did have this done as they made had a Dj for the rest of the reception.

We weren't too concerned about our music since we weren't having a dance party but we didn't want someone we know running the ceremony music when they should be enjoying the moment with the rest of our guests. We were looking for someone to MC the reception to announce the grand entrance and any games but a lot of the ones we contacted were either booked or not working due to it being a long weekend. Since most DJs also double as announcer/MC, we decided to hire one to take care of everything from ceremony to reception. In hindsight, I wish we kept looking for a separate MC or at least asked to see samples of their stage presence. The DJ that was assigned to us just wasn't good at all for that task.

My friend is going to DJ for me. It actually started as a joke because she doesn't usually do weddings but she decided she would do mine. I have the string quartet for thr ceremony because we go straight from ceremony to re edition area. So I didn't want to have her setting up both and moving everything around.
