dj for reception with no dancing?

Jess, on September 6, 2020 at 18:33 Posted in Wedding reception 0 8
My wedding is coming up super fast and due to Covid I feel like I’m really planning it all in 1 month.

We had hired a DJ but here in Ontario there is no dancing so we decided to only have him for the ceremony and not our reception. However, I’m starting to have second thoughts on this as we have decided to have a small reception after all (18 people and only for 3 hours or so). The DJ was also going to be our emcee.
Do you think I should go ahead and have him for the reception or just use my Spotify? I’m just worried that with no emcee it might get hectic. Feedback is appreciated Smiley smile

I’ve paid a deposit and the DJ has agreed to break his contract and just do our ceremony for the deposit price. I agree I wouldn’t want to put that burden on others for the ceremony!

Have you paid any deposits? If so, and you cancel your DJ, they may eat that money. Depending on how significant that is, I would considering keeping them for the ceremony so all your guests can just sit back and enjoy it instead of having to work and run things on timed cues etc.

I assigned one of my bridesmaids husband on music duty. He is going to a place that rents out a speaker and a mic. I believe it’s quite cheap! I told him to just take care of it and give me the bill once it’s done.

    Yay for date twins!!

That’s a good idea. I do already have Spotify premium so I’d just need to figure out the other stuff like a speaker and a microphone. How are you guys handling that?

Date twins! If you would like to cut your costs, just ask a friend to MC and write out a short and sweet itinerary. For example,
7:30Pm - introduce yourself and announce house rules (no dancing and last call at midnight etc).
7:45pm - announce first dance.Use Spotify, make a playlist. Make sure you have premium as the ads might be a little odd. That’s what we’re doing!
