DJ Cancellation

Allison, on April 5, 2019 at 10:41 Posted in DIY 0 9
Hey everyone!

We are less than 3 months away and just discovered our DJ accidentally double booked us. He is more than willing to refund us the deposit and recommend another company however they are located an hour and a half away from us.

Just wondering if there are any brides out there who managed to pull off their entire event DIY style?

I would be happy to save some money here to looking for tips and advice and how to’s from those who have experienced it or are planning to skip the DJ themselves.

TIA

My friends made a large playlist and hooked it their laptop up to the speaker system. Totally doable.

Its a lot of work putting the playlist together though. If you have time, I'd say its worth it. Nobody at the wedding seemed to mind save 1 or 2 people that wanted to request a song.

You'll need to ask a friend to play certain things at certain times though, like first dance. That's one thing to keep in mind.

Still waiting on a reply from one that might actually end up saving us $200... Looking for them to clarify a paragraph within our contract that I believe should be covered by their insurance and not fall on us.

    Hi Allison.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

I would definitely recommend hiring a professional DJ for a wedding. DJs do a lot more than play music. They're experienced with reading crowds, MCing the event and making sure the reception flows smoothly.

How did the 2 options work out? Are any of them able to do the event?

There are lots of people who don't have a DJ and just DIY for the music. Since he double booked and seems more than willing to be accommodating maybe you could ask him for some tips on how to do the music and see if he has any sample playlists he could give you? Otherwise there are lots of playlists online as well for weddings that will have a whole assortment of genres. As long as you keep the majority of songs upbeat and have a variety of genres you should be good to go. Maybe have some guests give you song requests/suggestions to help you build your list as well and then this way you can hopefully avoid people interrupting the playlist with requests the day of.

Thanks girls for the advice (: I was honestly leaning more towards hiring another just wasn’t sure if we would be able to find anyone decent. We actually are fortunate enough to have 2 options just working with them now to see what we can do... ugh this is so overwhelming though 😔

I agree with Tori and Becky, if you have the playlist and are able to get your hands on the equipment, it'd be doable, but I would look at other DJs more so for peace of mind.

    Seriously??? Ughhhhh!!

Personally I would check the contract and see if there is anything in there with them having to find your a replacement for the same cost and if it is the same cost then to go with that DJ.

At the same time I agree, saving money is always a want - but I would say it depends on a couple things like how big the wedding is, do you have a playlist already, do you need equipment in order to play it loud enough, do you require a mic for the ceremony, etc.

Did you have a playlist with a bunch of songs on it? If you want to skip but still need someone to manage what songs come on when because this will be important for the first dances and entrance all that. You could ask someone who is a friend of a friend to attend and do this that way its managed but still DIY. You need to make sure if you do it yourself though, are you renting all speakers, microphone now for speeches as he would of had one. You will also need a computer with all songs and you should download hundreds with different generas as you will want to change up with crowds.
