You could take ribbon that matches your colours and weave it in that part or take material and wrap the part that shows. Or take more flowers and glue them around the holes. It's very cute, the basket!

I would paint it the shade that goes with your dress, or a silver, gold or wedding colour, put flowers on the bottom (real or fake) and then a battery operated candles like Ashley said. It also depends on where you put it.

You could just add some shimmery organza fabric to the basket to wrap around the arrangement. You would only require a meter of fabric.

As for the lantern, you could add 1-3 tall battery operated candles. Add a corsage to the top that drapes down the side. Or add flowers or garland around the candles inside.
