Dinner controversy

Alyssa, on July 8, 2020 at 02:27 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
Hello everyone,
Long story short...
We don’t want to have a formal sit down dinner with our toasts mainly because we want all of our guests to be able to hear our toasts and we can’t afford to feed everyone. So Is it odd to have our dinner with our invited ceremony guests and have our speeches after? Or should we just put our toasts in with the dinner and only have very few be able to hear them? So many conflicting opinions I’m not sure what to do!

If I'm understanding what you said correctly. I'd second what Hank mentioned. If you want everyone to hear the speeches you could do this right after the ceremony. Have some designated people who you're not able to invite to the reception do their speeches and then rest of speeches can be at the reception. Or you have an open mic session for speeches right after the ceremony.

Why can’t people hear your toasts? Can you rent a microphone/ speaker if your venue isn’t providing one?

I read your post as saying that you’re having a smaller ceremony / dinner with a portion of the guest list, followed by a larger party of some sort to which you’re inviting many more people (eg a dance). If I’m understanding you correctly, I think it’d be fine to have people take the mic periodically during the larger party and deliver a speech. If your party is taking the form of a dance, I would have all speeches delivered in one or two “clusters” though (and keep them short and sweet!) Constant interruptions at a dance can kill the atmosphere! Good luck!

So you're inviting everyone to ceremony but not all to reception? Can the speeches take place during the ceremony?
