Different fabrics, but same colour of table cloth?

Carling, on January 25, 2020 at 20:12 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
I am looking at decorations for my September wedding and trying to decide what to do for table decor.

I had an idea today that it might be nice to do alternating table cloths in the same colour (navy blue) but different fabrics (polyester, satin, sequin) I think it would add a little extra dimension, but I can’t find any photos to a) confirm it will look good, and b) show my fiancé. What do you folks think? Have you seen pics of this?
Thanks in advance!

I think it would look great - just need to compare swatches side by side to make sure the colours are similar/match and won't be completely different.

If you pick similar fabrics that are either matte or shiny, then no one will notice, unless you have a sewer there 😛
If you don’t want guests to notice, stick with non shiny fabrics like cotton, linen, polyester, etc. If you do want that extra pizzaz without it looking too different, Amelia’s idea of a different contrast colour would looks very nice.

Do you think that anyone would be able to notice between tables? Thank you so much for your replies Amelia and Genevieve!

I think if you stuck to two kinds you might be less likely to notice any variation (like Genevieve mentioned).
I like the idea of a few sequined ones thrown in there, or even sequin runners to add some texture and depth.
If you get really stuck on the dye lots you could go with two different colors in the same fabric, like half the tables in navy and the other half in cream/silver etc. Or do each color in a different fabric so the variation is obviously on purpose.

It can be done but the main thing that will be difficult to match will be the dye lot. Every fabric dyed has a lot number of the fabric that’s dyed in the same batch. Dye lots can vary dramatically (you can see that if you check wool at Michael’s) and the colours might be just different enough to bother you.
If you can find fabric with similar dye lots, you could probably pull off the varied fabric. I know though if it were me because I don’t like stress, I’d just do the same fabric from the same dye lot to be safe.
