Did you know... before the proposal?

It was a mixture of both. He had been "fake proposing" for the last couple months, and would say how much he wanted to get married. And I would just laugh and say "when you actually ask I will say yes ". He had always said he was going to propose in 2019 so he would be able to get my fathers permission. But one night in January all night he just kept fake proposing, until an hour before I left he got down on one knee and asked. I thought he was joking but apparently it was not. He will still be asking again next year to get my dads permission but for now, it was a surprise

I had no idea at all, however right before he got down on his knee, literally 2 seconds before I thought to myself "is he going to propose?!" lol. I was still so surprised and shocked though, it was so amazing!

I had no idea it was coming. We talked about it and knew we would get married but I figured he would wait another year because I am just finishing up my undergrad. He decided on his drive home from work and couldn't wait he was so excited so he proposed in our backyard at 4 am in the pouring rain (we love rain) and then we went ring shopping the next weekend 😊

I didn't have a clue! When we first started dating he told me that he doesn't buy jewelry as a gift ever so don't expect any. We had talked over the years about engagement rings and wedding rings, I wanted them and he didn't really see the point (his parents don't wear wedding bands and his mum doesn't have an engagement ring). I told him I was ok with an engagement necklace or something lol. So when he actually proposed, with a ring, I was completely shocked. I'm pretty sure the first thing out of my mouth was "are you serious?" LOL! Once I got over the shock I said yes of course.

Aaaahh I never heard of that tradition, but that is really cool!

LOL right?! 11 years is a while hahha but we were young when we met and students for many many years so I'll give him that

I was totally fine with waiting another year or two untill we were fully settled in the house ... but he was the one that couldnt wait lol

He always tells me "your stuck with me " -- he told me he had same thing his dad had "love at first sight " and knew from fourth date on that i was the one - he always hinted around it - and then he got distant for a bit and i asked him whats up- says he was trying to figure out a way to propose - then i frieked (not at him) bc i was thinking "things like this arent they supposed to keepna secret ? Lol" -- so we talked and i said" if u are absolutely 150% sure about this - then please ask for my parents blessing " -- he did it through fb messenger with my mom -- and she explained what its like to be the new member (my brothers have different mom) -- as much as my mom drives me nuts -- she is my mom and i love her dearly & what she said to FH "sealed the deal" :-))
One of my fav movies is nightmare before xmas -- he literally asked me at the bottom of stairs in our home -- no kids -- no one around - just a private moment between two people -- in fact we were still in our xmas pjs and i woke up xmas morning sick as a dog :' -( :' -( -- he asked me to to be his sally to his jack -- i told him not until he gets on one knee - which he did & i said yes !

I had just read an article on the leap day tradition of women to asking men to marry them... If I had said someday, I think he would have laughed, eventually... He is an agitator but doesn't mind if you bug back... 11 years is a long time... If he had made me wait that long we would be doing the courthouse wedding... Lol.

LOL I can't even imagine his reaction if you had said "someday"! I totally understand that feeling of impatience and I think it's so amazing that you took matters into your own hands! For a while I told him I was getting impatient and would bring him to the courthouse, but then we bought a house so I didn't express it too much because.. Lots of Expenses.

Exactly the same situation! But I was also hoping/getting impatient because it was getting closer and closer to our 11-year anniversary poor guy lol

We had been ring shopping about 10 months before he proposed. It was his idea so around that time I kept expecting something to happen. After a few months I gave up and figured he didn't get a ring and I was actually a little perturbed because I kep thinking, why did he take me ring shopping if he had no intention to propose soon?!

But, little did I know he had the ring all along. He was unemployed at the time as he had just gotten out of the army, so he was waiting until he got a job to propose. That didn't happen and he ended up going back to school so he decided to propose during our vacation last summer before he started college. I was surprised! I was also really happy that he ended up getting the ring I really loved! When it didn't happen after so long I was disappointed because I really loved that ring, but in the end it was the one I got

I definatly did not as we had just bought a house together only 5 short months earlier so it definatly was a surprise

We had discussed marriage before... I kind of expected him to propose Christmas 2015, nothing... I proposed to him leap day and his answer was "someday"... I was beginning to get frustrated so we had a heart to heart and he said he was planning something.... By the time he proposed 8 months later I had given up expecting it, so it was a complete shock... In fact I was so shocked I said "yes" not "someday".

I definitely did not! He didn't even know until a couple days before. When he showed up to surprise me, people were like "really? You didn't think that's why he was there?" but I thought he was just surprising me because that's the type of guy he is. Even when he went up on stage in front of everyone, my brain was trying to figure out what was going on because as far as I knew, he didn't have a ring so I was thinking "Clearly the only thing he could be doing is proposing so is he going to do something symbolic and like tie a ribbon on my finger or something?" But he had found a ring to use just in time!

We had been ring hunting together so I knew. But I didn't know when it would happen or that he had already purchased the ring.

I thought I was SOOOO smart and totally knew! But I read some signs wrong and mis-heard a few things... and I was definitely wrong about the timing. But he had already bought the ring, he was just waiting... (taunting me!)
