Decorator costs

Jennifer, on July 2, 2018 at 16:45 Posted in Wedding reception 0 24
So today met the first decorator that I want to.
And eeekkkk. The cost of them. I knew it was gonna be pricey. I didn't even ask for a lot. (Especially when i think of some of the stuff that you can have).
Thank goodness for bridesmaid/good friend being with me. And talking with me after about areas we could cut back on.
Sorry to be a debbie downee. Just needed to complain.

It sounds like you found someone really great to help you. I really appreciate when someone trying to work with you and help you get the most for your money. I love that she helped you save money where she thought she could.

Totally agree with this, I will be making a lot myself. My FMIL is retired so she wants to help as much as she can she says and my mom is so thrifty I think as a team we’ll be pretty good as well.

I did a bit of shopping around to find my two decorators. One does mainly floral and other small decor, and the other does larger decor items (chair covers, sashes, tablecloths, napkins, drapery, etc.)

They often work together, so I was able to get everything for just over $500. Smiley smile

Defiantly shop around! Set up is not in our budget so we have a lot of friends and family helping out with set up.

Eeeekkkk. I feel you on that. that's where a huge cost came in on my first quote. but she didn't describe it. yesterday I had another quote. way more reasonable. and she explained her cost of draping it straight down vs scoopy/cross designs.
my backdrop covers a stage. and it is about 30 feet across. and about 25 feet high. ask decorators about just doing sheers/or panels hanging straight down. and it may be way more reasonable.

I got a 2nd quote. and am feeling better. as the price is more in line with what I wanted (still about 300 higher than I would have liked. but at least not 1400 higher!!!).
you know what I found with the 2nd quote. she did a better job of explaining where some of the costs come from. when she talked about my backdrop. she said...its 30 feet across...goes all the way to the ceiling (the ceilings are at least 25 feet high). she showed how much more material was in scalloped/design draping vs just hanging sheers nicely down. it just all around made me feel more confident in her pricing.
I am seeing someone else Monday. so fingers crossed! Smiley smile

That's awesome. I have more than enough people that are willing to help. which is great. but a big thing for me after being a bridesmaid 12 times is that I wanted my wedding party to do as minimal as possible the day of the wedding. and with our hall, we have to set up and clean up same day.
I had a quote from another person. and she is way more in line with what I thought was reasonable. THANK GOODNESS!!!

I just had a 2nd quote done by someone else. and she saw more of what I wanted in my head. and she took the time to explain how she priced certain things. like backdrop draping. how if I do a swoop and extra materials it will be this price, vs long hanging straight sheers.
2nd quote was WAY better. seeing a 3rd person Monday.

    Hey! Smiley smile
I didn't ask for any floral as my friend is a florist. and she said bridesmaid bouquets are anywhere from 75-150. bridal bouquet 150-300. depending on how full and what type of flowers.
I had her quote chair covers, table cloths, centerpieces (glass vases with floating candles), sparkly head table cloth and a backdrop behind the head table (sheers with mini lights), for 200 people and 10 people at the head table. and she was 3K for that. I know that Toronto is usually double on things that we pay here in Windsor. but 10K seems high to me. I would ask her for a break down of each item and cost. that really helped me in comparing the 2 quotes and where the high one was way off.
I don't have any ceremony decorations as its at a different location. which we will be there for less than 1 hour total. so to me it wasn't worth it.
private message me if you have any questions about. I would be glad to share some of the per item costs to see if shes in line.
and call around. I just got a 2nd quote. and am getting a 3rd on Monday.

I found the cost of a decorator was pretty steep too! Definitely more than I had budgeted for, and we didn't ask for a lot either! Must be common!

    Hey!

Just curious what your decorator costs were, and was this including floral?

I'm going through that right now, and don't really have a gauge on what average is since people often have separate decorator and florists but mine is all in one? My quoted price was around 10K for 200 people, in Toronto. For both ceremony and reception.

    Thoughts?

Some decorators are outrageously priced!! Our decorator is based out the Niagara region and is very reasonable and for some of the things that are cheaper for me to do myself she has been very honest and upfront to help me save costs! I hope you are able to find someone to help make your vision come true within your budget!

I decided it was more worth it for me to take a full week off to make sure everything could be done on time than it was to actually hire a decorator. I have lots of family willing to help out as well, so I'm lucky but I just couldn't justify it!

It's honestly the worst trying to justify the cost for décor. I don't have a problem with anything else, but the décor just blows me away!

Your just one of many brides who are feeling the bite of the decorator charges upon meetings.

Complain as much as needed to feel better.

Complain away Jennifer! I've been feeling the sticker shock of décor costs too and it's been very frusterating!
