Decorating banquet chairs without covers

Samara, on November 25, 2016 at 23:59 Posted in DIY 1 14

Hi,

So I know I'm going to sound really picky, but I'm just being honest. The banquet chairs available for my reception look like this:

Banquet Chair

Banquet Chair

Now they really don't look bad, it's just that I wanted to add some colour. However, I really don't like chair covers at all. Chair wraps look better, in my opinion, but I still am not in love with them. All this being said, it would be easier to rent and decorate Chiavari chairs, but I don't want to spend too much or put up with the hassle of transportation and set-up etc.

So, to get to my point, what I'm looking for is a way to cover only the back of a banquet chair, since I don't want the legs to be covered as a chair cover would. I've looked and looked and can't see anything I like. I'd love to completely cover the back with tulle or organza draping (open to any other ideas, fabrics, etc.) but can't find any good ideas for this specific type of chair. Everything I've seen involved a chair cover or wrap, which I would really prefer not to use.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to decorate only the back of a chair like this?

Also, in case you're interested, this is the basic set-up of the table and chairs.

Thank you! I'd really appreciate any input.

I was just going to leave the chairs alone but now looking at the material ties I am kind of rethinking....or it would be easier and cheaper to leave them alone...decisions!!!!

I think that my fiancé's aunt agreed to help decorate that day - we are only guaranteed 2 hours for setting up before the reception, and I'll be out with the wedding party taking photos during that time, so I can't help with it. I'm also hoping that my aunt, who is also very creative, will volunteer to help as well!

Any ideas for accessories? Hopefully, I can find a really good deal on fabric if we decide to go ahead with that - I could be decorating up to 50 chairs, if a lot of people show up.

Hey Samara! I'm so glad to hear that you want to decorate your chairs! They're going to look so much better with a different piece of fabric Smiley winking I like the ideas Lisa gave you. I also love Samtam's pictures! You could do something like the chair sash and chair tulle (1 and 2nd pictures). You could buy pieces of fabric do to them yourself and use some turquoise or jade accessories in there. Smiley love Is there someone to help you decorate on your big day?

I do like the idea of it covering just the back! When all the sides are covered, chairs just look clunky to me. but finding covers like that would be great! Or even using a large piece of fabric over the back and fastening it with a ribbon or something...

Those are great Lisa! Here are a few I found on Pinterest:

    Chair sash

    Chair sash

    Chair tulle

    Chair tulle

    Chair tulle

    Chair tulle

I know the chairs don't look as pretty as you want but at least they look padded and comfy which I'm sure you guests will appreciate!

What about these ideas? The first 2 you should just make for the top of the chair, although I think it's nice just hanging on the back and not the sides! Very different !

I'm not a fan of chair covers myself , I find they look like wrapped table clothes and half the time they are wrinkled and look awful! The only alternative I can think of are scuba chair covers! I love them ! They are tight and sleek! Not sure if you can find them just for the backs of the chairs though ......
