Has anyone incorporated a Scottish/Celtic/Highland theme into their reception decor?

I'm struggling with decor ideas for table centerpieces. We'll be using various tartans for table runners. My FH will be in his family tartan, and groomsmen wearing a rented kilts, tartan TBD. So colours aren't the issue. Our tables are oak harvest tables that are rectangular, we are also doing a family style meal.
Any suggestions are welcomed! Our venue doesn't allow candles Smiley sad

I like the thistle idea! Heather would be another one if you can find it.

Adding Celtic crosses or cladaghs to table number signs would work too.
Your bar could have a scotch tasting (get 2 or 3 different whiskeys or scotches, Writers Tears is one of my favs but it's Irish!)
Can you have electric candles? Some of the new led ones look almost real!

You could take Shannon’s idea and make a thin garland with privet or holly (or any other type of native greenery) and weave the thistles in?

Cute! Yes that is a little more than I was thinking, but it does help with the creative juices Smiley smile

    Thank you!

That's what I'm thinking- it is the how to incorporate thistles in. As the tables are set up farm kitchen table style (long and narrow), plus using family style it is proving difficult.

Oh I live on Pintrest when not working lol.

Thanks for the suggestion Ashley Smiley smile

Those are super pretty! Only issue is the height Smiley sad . After talking with our caterer his suggestion is things lower than a salt shaker, and then only slightly higher- improves the passing of dishes and reduces chances of spillage. So frustrating!!

    Hi Megan,

That all sounds really cool! I like the idea of using shamrocks with the centerpieces.

As we are of Scottish heritage we are leaning away from the Irish things haha. Thistles seem to be the number on recommendation. We might need to add some unicorns in (unicorns are Scotland's national animal Smiley winking

    Happy Planning!!

Hey! I'm having a St. Patrick's day themed wedding.... I'm pretty minimalist, so the decor will be too. I'm sticking with green & white flowers and greenery for small centerpieces.... we'll have gold table numbers and small sparkly shamrocks in each centerpiece. I like the thistle idea in the centerpieces...I'm hoping to add some bells of Ireland. I actually encouraged the guests to wear green or gold if they're feeling festive to make up for my minimalist approach - so it will look festive without being over the top.

You can incorporate thistles into your centrepieces and other arrangements. That’s was my plan to nod to my Scottish heritage.
