Day-of Wedding Coordinator?

Danielle, on December 9, 2019 at 10:47 Posted in Wedding reception 0 14

Hello all!

Just wondering your thoughts on day-of coordination services. Has anyone asked a relative or friend to take on this role? Or outside vendors? What have been your experiences?

Thanks!

Danielle & Greg

Thanks for your help everyone! We've kept in mind your experiences and we just hired a day-of wedding coordinator. This way, it will give us peace of mind and a chance for both us and our guests to enjoy our wedding as stress-free as possible!

Our venue comes with a day of planner. I think it is totally worth it. Off the top of my head I feel It will be such a busy day already. Someone will need to arrive early to set up and put the flowers out, prepare tables ect... Then in the evening a break down needs to be done. Not to mention coordinating the vendors to arrive and set up before hand.

The extra cost is worth it as other members have mentioned. It can't hurt to look into it an further discuss with FH.

Hopefully you are getting ready and enjoying your wedding morning rather then tying up loose ends.

I've asked my cousin/maid of honour's best friend. She's extremely organized and has planned a few events in the past so I'm hoping it goes well. I'll also have everything very clearly laid out for her.

Initially, we did not think this was within our budget and didn't think it was necessary.

Let me tell you that we came to our senses 9 months out and realized that we wanted somebody to take the reins so that we could enjoy the day. I had a friend offer, but it was really important to us that our friends and family be guests at our wedding, and not working.

Our DOC cost us just over $1000, which put us over budget, but every penny was worth it! She set up all the decor, she orchestrated the whole reception and not one of our vendors came to us with questions, she put out the dessert (she picked up the dessert on the way to the venue so our families didn't have to!). One of the best things that came with hiring her was that she attended and ran our rehearsal. We had a friend marrying us, so it wasn't like we had an experienced marriage commissioner who knew the ropes, so that was super helpful. Also, she made our day of schedule for us. I have seen countless posts on here and elsewhere of brides asking for people's day of schedules, and it was so nice to sit back and know that it was all done for me.

I recommend it if you can make it work financially. I will never regret spending that extra money on her services.

I've asked my FH cousin to be my day of coordinator. I'm getting ready on site anyways so if she does have questions. I did look into having someone come day of but I couldn't because of the price they wanted. I think it depends on where your venue is. Mine is at my family farm so I am taking the week off before to put everything together.

I would definitely get one so you can feel stress free during the day. If there are any problems, your day of coordinator will take care of it. I highly recommend if you have the budget.

FH would not budge on letting me have a Day-of Coordinator, he thinks it's a waste of money.

In the end for us personally, as a couple, it probably is. We have 3 siblings between us (and my FSIL's husband will be there as well) plus both sets of parents to help us out.

I planned the entire wedding on my own so the planning part was easy enough. The day of execution will be another matter entirely but we have family who will definitely help us make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

A coordinator can maybe be worth it if you want someone to help you plan (sometimes I can be really indecisive so a coordinator would've been good for that part) or you won't have many people to help out on the day of. Then, I think it is definitely worth it.

I am going to ask my MOH's stepmom to be my DoC, she is a kindred spirit when it comes to organization and events so I trust her! As well, my MOH's Dad is going to be our M.C. so they will make a great team. I plan to gift them at the end with a date night of some sort.

Luckily our venue includes a day of coordinator with our package. We meet them 3 months before wedding to pick out linens and centre pieces etc. A lot of packages we looked at included the coordinator.

We're going to ask a friend who can coordinate with the venue staff to get things set up.

We're having a small wedding so I'm not worried but I also don't want to try and manage it myself!

We weren't going to as we are pretty much on top of everything; have our venue, caterer, photogpraher, officiant, dessert alll the way down to our tablecloths and some decor.

With that said, we met with a few and honestly it ended up seeming like a really big help. We booked one and I don't regret it at all. I don't want to be the point person for vendor questions, I don't want to spend hours setting up or cleaning up.

Really does depend on your venue though, we have a DIY style venue where we are bringing in a lot of our own stuff (they don;t have catering or anything on site).

One thing to consider is negotiating; if you see that packages are really expensive and more than you need, you should still reach out, outline your needs and your budget. Many coordinators will tailor pricing to you. Another consideration, especially if you need more bare bones service, is not to book a big name or someone who does it for a living, try looking through facebook wedding groups as there are MANY freelancers who will post in there and are also great resources!

I hired one and she has been a life saver! I was having trouble thinking about how to decorate my venue and renting a tent since I'm having an outdoor ceremony, and the coordinator I hired has taken care of all that and she's really good at communicating which I really appreciate. She's done all this even though I only hired her really for day-of-coordination, so I think with her everything will just flow really smoothly on the day of the wedding which is a huge stress reliever!

Our vendor provides a day of contact person who sort of acts as a coordinator. Some places do offer it if they do weddings often

I dont think we are going to bother with a coordinator. Our venue has someone who will make sure that sort of a coordinator (but they don't deal with the other vendors). As long as everyone knows what their duties are that day I dont think we'll need someone over seeing everything. I have asked a two friends to check the reception area (turn on any candles) and make sure everything is in place.
