Dancing Alternatives

Cindy, on January 17, 2021 at 18:52 Posted in Wedding reception 1 8

My fiance and I aren't into dancing in general so we are choosing not to do dancing (no first dance nothing). I know with restrictions, dancing wasn't permitted anyways.

I'm just wondering what other activities we could do that's fun for everyone and doesn't cost us a lot of $$$.
I was thinking of a photobooth, but I'm not sure. Plus with a January wedding, it would have to be indoors...

Any Ideas?

We will have music but no dancing either. There's not really room for it at our venue. We are putting out some table activities (wed libs, those little cards that ask for marriage advice or bucket list ideas, etc.), disposable cameras with an i-spy list, the shoe game, and renting some yard games like ladderball or ring toss. I originally wanted a photo booth too, but disposable cameras or Polaroids can easily work too, and are much more budget friendly.

I've also considered hiring a caricature artist or some other entertainer but I don't want to go too crazy. I think people are good at keeping themselves entertained.

These are all great ideas! I didn't really think about having games like this if dancing wasn't allowed due to COVID.

There is a card of questions guests can play with you with their answers. Guess Who or Who Said it First. Its interactive and fun for all your guests to see how well they know you both.

Would they be into more structured games? Things you might traditionally play at a shower like the newlywed game, the shoe game, and maybe things like guessing the age of the bride and groom in old photos or "never have I ever at a wedding". They don't need to be games that someone wins, they would be more of a form of entertainment for the group.

Yeah I thought about board games, I'm just not sure how into games my relatives would be. I know my immediate families wouldnt really be into it.

What about a selection of board games at each table? You can buy used versions of most popular ones at value village for cheap. Anything with easily sanitized pieces (trouble and hungry hungry hippos come to mind) would be ideal, but people wouldn't be sharing any more germs than they did while eating I would think.

Photo booths are iffy both under restrictions (need physical distancing) and with covid in general (sharing props and costumes Smiley atonished ). If covid wasn't a thing, there's no denying I would shell out for a photo booth, even if I'm camera shy myself because of the return on investment in upping the fun factor for your crowd.

We're doing games if we can have a reception but no dancing. Skribbl.io is a great one. It's a free version of Pictionary online and everyone uses their own phones to draw and guess answers so very covid friendly. Trivia style games are also fun, especially if you have prizes.
