Dance Floor vs No Dance Floor?

Bridget, on February 8, 2018 at 21:42 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12

Hi Everyone!

Is anyone not having a dance or a venue with a dance floor? I have a nice venue booked for Sept.29, 2018 however it does not have a dance floor. It is a small reception area for small weddings of 40-50 people. I am thinking of changing my venue to a location that has a dance floor. Thoughts anyone?

Our venue offers a dance floor (included in the price and they lay it down if needed). We're not gonna do a dance floor tho, we'll change that area to tables with boardgames and stuff on it instead

The venue can offer to put the dance floor provided if you want. Orignally our plans didn't include to have it and got the call to ace it down. I said yes of couese.

Inquire with your venue and see if they can do it for you. If not, see what the charge would be extra.

If they still allow for music and dancing then I would say just move some of the tables from dinner out of the way and dance away!!!

    Hi Courtney,

The venue is small (dinner area) so they do not have a specified dance floor. I would have to lay down some flooring to save the carpet.

    Hi Rosalyn!

Yes, we were thinking of the same...moving the tables and creating a small dance floor. It wont be a very big dance floor as we would just have to dance on the carpet or lay down some flooring.

    Where are you getting married?

I was recently discussing this and my father mentioned he would be disappointed if we didn’t have a father/daughter dance. Our venue is also really small - only fits 46-48 people. I mentioned this to my day of coordinator and she said “Pft, you want a dance I’ll get them to move tables” it won’t be a full dance but I think it will be enough!

Do they not allow dancing, or do they not have a specified dance floor?

If it is that they don't have a 'spot' for that - perhaps talk to the venue to see if they've made any arrangements in the past for weddings or have any suggestions. You can potentially rent dance floors.

As for having versus not having dancing, totally depends on what you and your groom are into. I'm not really a dancing person, so I wouldn't mind, however my fiance is the 'i just gotta dance' sorta guy. There was a venue I found that doesn't allow dancing because its quite old and the floors couldn't take the beating, so he immediately vito'd that.

I think finding a venue for this September will be a challenge at this point in the game. If a dance floor is really important to you, try call around to see if there is anything available for your date before making your decision. Once you have an alternate location in mind and know the cost and logistics, you can be in a better place to make an informed decision.

We are having a backyard wedding and we will not be having a dance floor... We just found a relatively flat spot and will be dancing in the grass!

Yes, this is the only drawback to my venue is that I would have to create a small temporary dance floor.

I think it depends on if you have a lot of people that would love to dance, I think its a good idea to have one so people can get loose and have a good time Smiley smile
