Cupcakes!

Monica, on September 27, 2018 at 23:35 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10
FH and I are doing a cupcake tower. Planning for about 150-180 guests attending - haven’t finalized the guest list yet, but we’re pretty sure it’ll be around that range.

Anyone have any idea how many mini cupcakes and regular cupcakes we should be planning to order? We’ll have a 6” cake on top of the tower as well. Smiley cake

    I’m doing regular size cupcakes and will have 2 flavours. I’m getting just slightly more then 1 per person. That way if some people eat 2 we are covered (since some people won’t eat any). But we are also have a candy table and desserts in our buffet.

    Do you want to do a mix of mini and regular sized cupcakes? If mini cupcakes I would say about 3 per person. If regular then I would say 1 per person unless you aren’t have any other dessert then I would say 1.25 per person.

    If you want a mix of regular and mini then maybe one of each per person?

    We are doing mini cupcakes... 3 flavours.... our baker suggested for us to do one of each flavour for each person, but we are also having a full s'mores bar provided by our venue, so we are only doing about 1-1.5 mini cupcakes per person, since there are 2 dessert bars.

    Mini cupcakes = 2-3 per person

    Cupcakes = 1-1.5 per person

    And that's based on no other dessert options.

    I love this, I'd rather deal with cupcakes at the end of the night than have people missing out. We'll probably follow the 1.5 cupcake per person as well. Not everyone will want one, and some will go back for seconds (I did at a wedding not too long ago lol).

    You might have 150-180 guests at the start, but if you do cake/cupcakes later in the evening, some of the older guests or guests with young children will be gone by then. I would have cupcakes available for eating earlier in the evening than later.

    Here's my philosophy, and this goes for all of the food and booze at my wedding - I would much rather have too much than not enough! Having leftovers to deal with is WAY less stressful than having people not get fed, in my opinion.

    Do some research on your local area - there are always groups looking for donations like this. Here in Edmonton, the Emergency Youth Shelter will happily take leftover cupcakes from our wedding.

    I agree, it might be more difficult for older people to have cupcakes! Our venue also puts out an assortment of desserts, so we are going to have a ton for people to choose from! We are having a destination wedding, and there will be over 15 kids there. I’ll just send the left over cupcakes with them to their hotel room at the end of the night lol

    Haha! Thanks for the input Gina! I too am worried that I’ll be packing up cupcakes at the end of the night. I looked online and most have suggested about 1.5 per person, but even still - some have stated that they still have tons left over. I guess it all depends on my guests as well, I’m assuming most of my elderly guests won’t be as ecstatic to consume the cupcakes.

    I was told you calculate 1.5 regular cupcakes per person. We have 60 confirmed guests. We just placed an order for 96 cupcakes (sold by the dozen) I sure hope I got the right information so I’m not trying to pack up 40 cupcakes at the end of the night lol

    Any caterer or cupcake shop would be able to help with that. I would account for at least 1 large cupcake per guest.
