Cupcake question

Emma, on December 5, 2018 at 21:30 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10
Something I didn’t think of. Are cupcakes ok being set up earlier in the day? I think our are going to be delivered around 3pm. We probably won’t be eating them until around 9-9:30. Is that too long?

I'm curious to see what your baker says as well! I recently learned that "naked" cakes can get dry if there isn't enough icing on them, but cakes are usually prepared more in advanced than cupcakes (or so I would think since it's a larger piece to work on).

I literally was already thinking about this today. My wedding is in January, and my cupcakes/cake are going to be set up around noon, and out til... gosh.... 8-9pm?? It's totally fine, it's more about hot weather when the buttercream can melt/move. It won't go bad in that amount of time.

So I heard from our baker. Cupcakes will be fine being out for that long (they are buttercream).

The cupcakes can be kept in room temperature based on regular icing. Fondant icing on cupcakes will need to be kept cold until serving time. Check with your baker to see what they type of icing is being used first. Your venue should be able to keep them in the fridge the day before.

Let us know what the baker says, I'm intrigued now. I'd imagine they would be fine if they are indoor and climate controlled.

Unless your reception venue is unusually hot and will melt the icing - they'll be fine. It's no different than leaving a cake out on your counter for a few hours.

Depends on the icing on them. and where they are being kept.

with it being a winter wedding. I wouldn't worry about them being set up early. unless they have fondant icing on them.

I would definitely check with you baker, it will probably depend on what the frosting is made of.

Well the venue can refrigerate them. That’s what me sudddenly think about it. They asked if they needed to be. But then they will have to set them up during our reception.

Ive sent our baker an email. Guess I will see what she says.

I hadn't thought of that either!!

I would ask your venue if there's room in the fridge or cold room to store them in. I'm not worried about the cake itself, more the frosting.

If you're unsure, I would ask the baker directly to see what brides typically do or what they suggests doing.

    Best of luck!
