cra & Assuming Last Name

Susie, on March 7, 2024 at 10:35 Posted in Ontario 0 2
Hello! So last week I went in and changed my last name to my married name. Now how in the world do I do that with the CRA?

My drivers license and health card have been changed as well as my car ownership. I still need to change my name with my banks though.

Did you just assume the name change or did you actually legally change it your birth certificate? There's a difference.

If you legally changed it, then you'll need to go to Service Canada to process the change with the CRA.

If you just assumed the name, you don't need to do anything different with the CRA as your SIN is still under your original name.
