Covid-19: Doing the wedding backwards?????

Danielle, on April 14, 2020 at 21:58 Posted in WeddingWire 1 20
Hi everyone! To all the future brides out there... we are going to get through this!! 💗💗💗

My wedding date is May 29th here in Edmonton. It’s definitely not happening. We’re thinking of still signing papers with just our parents and siblings. We’re hoping to hopefully have our actual wedding in September. Would it still be werid to still have a bridal shower and bachelorette party later on regardless if we postpone our wedding to the fall or next year? I don’t want to give up those bride experiences 😭

I feel you on this one lol We had to post pone our wedding so the reception will be in January but we decided to tie the knot in July instead and my MOH already has my bachelorette paid and booked for August so looks like I will be celebrating as a married woman Smiley laugh

The bar had just opened a few months ago. Your party sounds great, nice & simple, not too costly. Just focused on you & HP! Lol

Oh that's so cool I didn't know there was a HP bar in Calgary! We were thinking of hosting it in my mom's basement lol more space for everyone there and spare rooms. We would have a movie marathon, and HP themed snacks, drinks and games.

I just wanted to say that it's awesome that you're having a Harry Potter themed bachelorette party. I was talking to some of my girls and was thinking of doing the same. We were thinking of going down to Calgary & renting a hotel room, going to the new HP bar.

That's funny me and my moh were talking about this today! I feel sad I might not get to do these events. I think I would still hold my bachelorette party afterwards, but it will be mostly so we can still have our harry potter themed party that we were all excited to do and already bought a few things for it. I don't think I'd still do my bridal shower just bachelorette but that's my preference. If everyone still wants to do it, I say do it, and people might like that especially since we've all been isolated from gatherings.

I don’t think we can in Ontario. Someone posted something about Township of ZORRA possibly issuing it.

My friend just got back to me and said Zorra was accommodating last time she checked. Feel free to pass it along to your friend too 😁

Right?! For us registry’s are still open here in Alberta but anything can change. Some have already closed so we made sure to get our licence ASAP. My friend from Ontario had to do through hell and high water to find a registry office that was still open. I just asked her for you. Hopefully she will get back to me soon 💗

You all have been so sweet and kind with your words and opinions so thank you for that 💗

I know personally if my friend was going through this I would stand by them 100%. In fact I would still encourage them to have a “wedding” and the bridal shower and bachelorette later. This situation I know is completely different.
My point of view was it could be maybe another year where social distancing is still enforced, I would hate to just keep postponing it and postponing it for a future that is never promised. Not to mention I would hate to know if someone got sick from my wedding.

I don't think it would be weird at all to still have those things! If anything, I'm thinking people will be even more understanding because of everything that is happening. You should definitely get to enjoy those bride experiences. Smiley smile

I don't see anything wrong with having the pre wedding events happening to enjoy the moments with the ladies and friends. Its once you will get to celebrate these parties and look back on them in the years later.

I don't think that it would be weird at all!! It's not like getting legal papers means that you all of a sudden don't need/want wedding shower gifts! The only time that I've ever even somewhat thought "does he/she really need a wedding shower" is for a cousin that has been married once before - but even then if she had wanted a wedding shower (she opted out - at least she did before this covid19 thing hit), I would have gotten them a little something.

No. Definitely wouldn’t be weird- I wouldn’t want to miss the pre-wedding fun because of unfortunate circumstances during this time. Can you still get a marriage certificate there? Here in Ontario I’m pretty sure we can’t even get a marriage certificate at this moment lol
