Covid-19 Ceremonies - How will you adapt?

Haylee, on April 27, 2020 at 09:07 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 19

Hello ladies!

For those of us still going ahead with our ceremonies amidst the pandemic, I thought it would be fun to share how all of us are planning to adapt to still make our day special. Specifically, I'm interested in hearing about any DIY projects you'll be taking on.

A lot can change between now and the end of July for me, but I'm sure we'll be having a much smaller gathering than anticipated. If we still can't gather in the church, we'll do a backyard ceremony. Maybe livestream to others who can't be there? We're going to be all dressed up in our wedding best, I'm hoping to at least order some flowers from Costco to do some DIY bouquets and decor. I will probably also make a small cake and maybe cupcakes? Set up a pretty little table with some food and desserts. Take photos. Be happy. All in all, enjoy our day as best as we can!

I know this is a disappointing time for a lot of us... but if we look at the positives, many of us will have two special days of celebration, our actual ceremony and then a reception later on. I decided I can either stay completely negative about it, or I can plan to make the best of it and still have a special day with my new husband.

I think that’s what he meant? There has to be a steady decrease over 2-4 weeks in order even considering going into phase 1. That will take us to May 12 - May 26 to even start considering opening up.

The Chief Medical Officer of Ontario also said that there “needs to see fewer than 200 new cases daily for an extended stretch before relaxing COVID-19 emergency measures would be feasible”.
Unfortunately it was all very broad. But I would assume that June for sure things would start opening up Smiley smile as long as we keep doing what we’re doing and cases stay down!

So, I'm not sure what to make of Doug Ford's announcement today. Still no dates to look to really. If we have a steady decrease in cases for the next month, things might start opening back up in June?

That sounds so nice!! This is the perfect time if any to support local places. I hope you get the awesome pictures you're wanting, that sounds like a really unique, dream-like place for a ceremony.

We haven't officially decided, but it's looking like we will be eloping for our ceremony and pushing our reception to 2021.

There is a brick alleyway in our entertainment district that has twinkle lights and some fun street art, we had planned to do photos there and now I'd like to have our ceremony there if we elope. I think it will make for some more unique photos and memories. If restaurants are open by October we will have a meal together at a fancy smancy Italian place nearby, if not we will have fancy take out in our wedding clothes.
I had planned on artificial flowers but I'll be reaching out to a local florist for a simple bouquet and boutonniere instead, it makes sense to support local as much as possible right now. So I'll be doing a little less diy. I'm really hoping our photographer is allowed to capture our day, and it would be lovely if we could get something sweet from the bakery doing our wedding cake.

This is the year of many changes for couples that have wanted to get married. Eloping or intimate weddings have been the alternate choices and postponing the reception/renewal for the later date.
Its seems that the chances of bigger gatherings will happen later this year unless the lock down stays the same. Its the risk game considering what may come upon the decision. Stick to the intimate wedding may be a good idea still if you were to do as one couple did this year with families parked on the curb to watch you get married on the front lawn. The photographer and Officiant present is all you would need with you.

Yes sweet and simple day! Love it. We will wait and see! I've also looked online at intimate weddings and they are fun to look at. They make the best photos too.

I'm in the same boat as you! We just got engaged in March (right before everything went south). Originally just wanted a sweet and simple day, ceremony and reception both in the church. I feel like my plans have just been adapting weekly!! Still going for that simple/special day, just waiting to see who can all be there.

Same here! Can you believe I originally wanted my ceremony in the church and a small gathering at my parents house. Even before I booked my venue. So much more relaxing, fun and intimate. Now just gotta wait and see if the ban gets lifted to 50 people at least... that would be amazing

My grandma might have one in her china pattern! Maybe it's just me, but the more I plan for an intimate little ceremony, the more excited I'm getting, even if our day isn't how we originally planned for.

I always forget that grocery stores sell cakes.. lol! I will probably go that route too if making one seems too stressful leading up to it! I just need to find a nice stand to display it on.

That sounds lovely. 50 people would be more than ideal for us too! Our original list had 78. But 50 would accomodate for all of our family.

I love your idea of cake and cupcakes. I will be buying a cake at my local grocery store. My plan is to get married in the church and have a small gathering at my parents house. I would also love to have some food for guests and do my first dance there too. I would also get flowers at Costco.

I do hope they lift the ban and allow 50 people. That would be amazing and would work out just fine for us. My ceremony is June 27th but if they lift the ban in July, I would be more than happy to move it to July. I am just hoping this summer works. I am also waiting for Fords announcement this afternoon.

Here's hoping it's good news for the summer. I know there are talks of a second shut down potentially happening in the fall months. I have a feeling they will try to give us some relief to enjoy summer while we have it. As long as everyone is responsible and works within the guidelines. At this point, I just want my license so we can be married regardless.

I’m confident by July you won’t be at a 5 person gathering limit. Worst case by then, maybe 50.

I’m trying to stay positive and wait for doug fords announcement!

My thoughts are with all of us having to navigate through this! My parents also won't be able to be there if we're still at the 5 person limit.. maybe watch from inside the house if we do it in the backyard? My heart really sinks at the thought of my dad not walking me down the aisle through a church full of our friends and loved ones. I'm trying not to dwell on it though.

For us, it’s kind of sad but the only silver lining is we still plan to get married on July 18. The sadder part is our parents will only be able to watch by live video stream as they will only allow us and our maid of honour and best man in the church.

Our venue is essentially fully booked until summer 2022 and we just don’t want to wait that long to throw a party. So I guess the other silver lining is we will save some money!
Doug Ford is releasing his plan in Ontario today so fingers crossed for all of the June and July brides!!
