Corkage

Felicia, on November 16, 2020 at 16:30 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5

Hi all! I am in the beginning stages for planning my wedding, and I am curious about the corkage fees. Our venue allows alcohol, but the catering company is the one charging me the corkage fee. Is that a mandated fee? We are providing our own alcohol for the wedding, and just hiring a bartender or two. Any advice is appreicated!

It depends on who owns the alcohol license or permit. If the venue is unlicensed and the caterer owns the SOP for the event, you have to go through the caterer for all alcohol service, hence why they're charging you corkage.

Always check the fine print! There's sometimes a lot of hidden fees that you don't notice until they tell you at the end. For example, our venue wanted to charge us for cake cutting and we opted out for that and told them one of our parents will cut the cake for our guests lol

That is what I am thinking! It would save quite a bit of money to not have that corkage fee haha

I believe they're charging you a corkage fee so they can get some money back since you're not buying alcohol from them. It's a way to not lose money out of an event. You can always ask and see if they can wave the fee.
