Classic or custom vows?

Lynnie, on February 25, 2019 at 13:05 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 25

Are you and your future spouse writing our own vows? Or are you sticking with the traditional "in sickness and health"? If you're writing your own vows - are you slipping in a joke or keeping them strictly sentimental?

What did you choose to say at your wedding ceremony: classic or custom vows?

Definitely writing out own. The traditional ones basically the same for every wedding and we hate that. We are just going to make them short and sweet. Writing our own lets us actually think about what is most important to us instead of the same old thing everyone says. I love when couples right their own, it's so much more special!

Classic as can be and the officiant noticed our rose ring cases letting the guests know. My aunt liked them and asked me for a set for her daughters wedding coming up this year.

I want to do our own vows. I love this man so much and what he has brought to my daughters life means the world to me. I want every last person at my wedding to know just how much he means to us. I'm sure I will cry buckets, but then what else is waterproof mascara made for, right?

A little bit of both. More our own personal vows but I still want the opportunity to say I DO! 😊😊

We are undecided on this and we are about 2 weeks away. We are figuring it out this weekend.

Classic vows - don’t have time to write our own. And just like Amanda mentioned, short and simple - less talk in front of everyone = better. 🙂

We are using traditional vows, short and simple.. as fast as possible. The less time we have to talk infront of everyone the better.

For our honeymoon we are going to Hawaii and we are going to have a traditional Hawaiian ceremony on the beach there and we will do our own vows.. Must more private and intimate and they really are only for us anyways.

I'd prefer the traditional vows just because I get squirmy being all mushy in front of people. I think I'd rather write a more personal message/vows in a card and have my FH read it as he's getting ready (and vice versa). We're having a videographer, so hopefully that will capture those more private moments to look back on later.

Classic, but we have readings for bridesmaid and best man to read during the ceremony and I've added a couple little things within in the ceremony like attached picture

I wanted to do classic because I'm not very good at writing but my fiance wants custom so we'll probably do some combination.

My fiancé will keep it classic, but customize them slightly. I told him I'd rather him and I write our vows to share with each other privately and have more standard/traditional vows to say during the ceremony.

Classic. We are getting married in a Catholic Church and are not allowed to deviate from the traditional vows.

We are doing the traditional vows for the ceremony, and writing personal vows to exchange privately during the half hour we've planned to spend alone before the party starts.

My FH is wanting to write our own but the thought scares me! He’s a much better writer than me and I dont want to be a blubbering mess either lol.

We haven't decided yet. It'll probably be a blend between classic and custom, with the help of our officiant!

I went to one wedding where the couple included too many inside jokes, in their vows, that it made hearing it all kind of awkward and uncomfortable. So we definitely want to avoid that.

We actually have not decided- and we need to decide like this week. He was custom I want classic. I am not one to declare my love in front of people- and I don't want to cry. I might just write him a letter instead.

Definitely classic- I’m far too self conscious to have to say vows I wrote out loud 😂

We are writing our own vows! We are 2 months away from our wedding, so I’ll have to get on writing my vows and our speeches! Yikes!

We'll probably keep it classic, he's not much with words and the template our officiant provided us with made me cry with the classic/traditional vows so I think we are set!

Keeping it classic. FH doesn't feel comfortable writing his own vows so I told him we can just write each other letters for when we are getting ready and read them to ourselves only Smiley smile

We're keeping it simple since FH doesn't want custom vows (he's a little shy).

We are somewhere in between custom/traditional. Our officiant has a website that gives a whole bunch of options for each part of the ceremony. So we are customizing ours in that way, but some of the wording in the vows is traditional

Eek! It’s that time of the planning process!

We will definitely do customs vows. Sentimental over sappy with some personal notes that will likely make one of us laugh. And we’ve agreed to hold pinkies like we’re pinky swearing (something we do regularly).
