Church wedding donations?

Vero, on December 5, 2024 at 13:47 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 3

Hello!! My fiancé and I are looking to get married in a church but I am only the second of my cousins to get engaged so not sure where to start. I recall getting married in a church is "free" and you're meant to give a donation to the church, but does anyone know how much to donate nowadays? My parents' experience 30 years ago is helpful but not really current, we also haven't been to church in quite a long time so there's not really any parish members we would know to ask.

If you're looking for a Christian church, we have booked Westwood Community Church and the rental fee is around $500. We have paid non-refundable deposit for April 11th, 2026, and we might have to change our date to a later one. Please message me if you would like to take over that date, and I can just ask them to transfer the reservation to your name for free.

Thank you for the info!! In contacting churches it looks like they're charging (no longer a "donation" haha) around $600 in my area so not unreasonable here either.

A few years ago, a few friends of mine who got married in a church paid $500, or roughly the price of an officiant if you weren't having the wedding in a church.
