Church wedding

Alexa, on June 4, 2017 at 14:28 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 7

I need help choosing between two churches. One is called St. Martha's Parish its my family's catholic parish that they go too and would not have to pay for anything only issue is so many rules and restrictions. Need to wear a modest dress, only church music, no aisle runner or candles or flower petals/rice/confetti.

Kings of Kings fellowship is a Christian church and very welcoming. No many rules but we would have to pay rental fee which is double amount from St.Martha's Parish and need to a six week wedding preparation course , every Sunday night 2 hrs a week as for St.Martha's parish wedding preparation course is only a weekend long event.

I would go with the catholic parish because your family has a history there, and the price is right. There's no crime in wearing a modest dress, or you can cover up with a shrug until the ceremony is over. Lots of venues don't want you to throw rice, flower petals, etc., or they will charge you for the clean up. Check out more modern church music. I personally like Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" but I don't know if the church would accept it.

I prefer the look of the second church it suits my personality of since the building is made out of brick very classy and historical. I am a history nerd. I want the cheaper option too but my main issue with the other church is they said I need to buy a modest if not I could always wear a white cloth to cover up chest and need to cover my shoulders. That is something I am not willing to do. I am not spending money on a dress that I love to have to cover it up for my ceremony based on other person's views on modesty.

It seems if you have been together over 10 years, they will skip the courses. anything under that, they want you to take the course. We have been together for 12 years and living with each other for 12 years as well. I think we know each other pretty well now and know what we are getting into by getting married at the late age. We are both in our 50's which makes a difference when it comes to the courses. Life experiences mean a lot when it comes to those courses.

I like the look of the second church but would personally go with the cheaper option... Our pre marriage counseling was three evenings for 1.5 hours... Even though we are older and have been together for a while we both got alot out of the sessions... We learnt things about each other and our communication styles... We also felt much closer after the sessions.

Listen to what your Gut tells you. I am happy that we have been together for so long now, that we didn't need to do the pre- marriage course. They make you take that course when you are young and haven't been together very long. They just want to make sure you know what you are getting into and that you are compatible with each other. We chose an outdoor wedding at a church. no fees to do it outside.
