Children Attending Wedding & Reception

Ashley, on June 27, 2025 at 12:09 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 2

Hello!

My Fiancé and I are getting married in August 2026.

As we build the guest list we are always on the same topic ... where do we make the vut line on the guest list and how do we keep it "fair"? We both have very large families so with just our basic list before children is 75 people and our goal is under 100. So if we open it up to the younger crowd we are looking at an additional 20-50 guests, We love children but as we plan the wedding and talk the topic we both think back to how many weddings we attended as kids and how much we actually recall .... so if we need to make "cuts" this is one we thought might be easier to accommodate and keep our guest list where is needs to be and also squeeze in the handful of friends / extra family we want to invite.

We also want to be able to enjoy ourselves and not have to worry about anything and also want our guests to have the best time as well ........ BUT we worry that inviting / opening up to our guests (family / friends) to bring their littles it wont be as much of an experience we had hoped...

HOW do we say "no" to bringing kids?

Happy planning Smiley smile

We have large families and I couldn’t imagine getting married and not having our nieces, nephews and cousins at our wedding.

    Hi Ashley,

My husband and I had a "kid free" wedding, well kind of. My two nieces ages 15 and 16 at the time and his 4 children ages 12-16 were of course invited but we did not care to have my cousin's younger children ages 4-8 as that would have added a different vibe to our swanky style wedding and also I'm just not very close to them, so! We did not put on the invite but we privately messaged those with kids and put in a way of "looking forward to partying with you guys and you both having a fun night away from the kids!"...so they got the hint (we had a small wedding of 25 people, so privately messaging was so big deal) and thankfully it was received well; they were happy to all get a babysitter!

    Good luck!
