Charger plates to a destination wedding

Phoebe, on December 15, 2018 at 00:32 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9
My fiancé and I are getting married in Asia and we can’t decide on charger plates. I love them and think they’re beautiful. He loves me and thinks I’m ridiculous for wanting to lug 55 charger plates across the world. I know most people will agree with him, but I’m worried that our table will look so plain and boring with white linen, white plates, white napkin, and silver cutlery.

Should I give up and forego the charger plates?

I would not lug charger plates 1/2 way around the world. not worth the space in your suitcase. my venue offers them for free and I don't even think we are using them.

Yes! Do something like this! It will look great and won't cost you an arm and a leg on the transportation.

I love the idea of doing some placemats instead, especially if you can find them at your destination!

I'm not having charger plates at my local wedding - no one will notice them with the table centrepieces.

I love your dedication but I would say leave the ones you have at home and go with an alternative aesthetic in Asia, like palm, banana, or bamboo placements. This way you’re getting what you want but keeping in mind the logistics of transporting what really is a minor decor item, that most guests won’t notice or care about.

You may even be able to get some inexpensive ones from a market in your destination. And maybe instead of lugging all of them back home, you keep a set for yourself and give them to your guests in place of the centrepiece. (At some weddings, the oldest person at a table or the couple that’s been married the longest etc, gets to take home the centrepiece - you could do that with the placemats instead.)

You don’t need charger plates. Nobody notices them.

I'd say skip them! Youd be surprised how little you'll miss them when the tables are all set and dressed with everything else! I think it's a lot of extra weight for something that's not necessary Smiley smile

I totally get being very excited about something as simple as charger plates! Everything feels like it just has to come together. But honestly you likely wouldn’t even notice it if they weren’t there! I would honestly probably leave them behind. Save room for the rest of the luggage

I think its adorable/awesome he will let you do what makes you happy, even if he thinks it's crazy... but I do kind of side with him. I think your guests will understand that you didn't take heavy, bulky, costly decor half way around the world. Honestly, people wont even think twice about it.

If you're really set on it, do it... but just know it will be for you, and that's ok Smiley smile
